  1. Must be an undergraduate student at the time of application.
  2. Must be majoring in nursing.
  3. Must reside in the greater Kansas City area (Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties in Missouri; and Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas) or St. Joseph, Missouri.
  4. Must be African American.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

Additional Information: The General Hospital #2 Perpetual Trust Fund provides annual scholarships to African American students in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area who are currently enrolled in a registered nursing program. For this award, Greater Kansas City is defined as: Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties in Missouri; and Johnson and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas; and St. Joseph, Missouri. Submissions will be evaluated on the strength of recommendation letters and the quality of submitted essays, as well as the student's demonstrated past academic achievements and ongoing financial need. Awards are provided through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, a local charity founded in 1978 with the goal of improving the Kansas City metropolitan area. Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Awards will be paid in two equal installments of $500 each in August and January. All checks will be mailed directly to the scholarship recipient's school, co-payable to the school and the selected stduent.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and additional information about this scholarship can be found online at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation website using the provided links. Greater Kansas City area students who wish to apply for the General Hospital #2 Perpetual Trust Fund must submit the following: a completed application form; three letters of recommendation; a transcript of academic standing that includes a calculated grade point average; evidence of financial need; a short personal statement about the applicant's educational experience and goals; and a recent picture of themselves. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
