Number of Awards & Eligibility: 500 awards of $2,000 each offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior or a current undergraduate student at time of application.
  3. Must be 23 years of age or younger. Applicants must be under the age of 21 if they are not enrolled as full-time students.
  4. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  6. Must not be married.
  7. Must be a dependent child of an active duty personnel, reserve/guard, or a retired military member. Dependent children of employees of DoD, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), Public Health Services or other federal or military related agencies or activities are not eligible unless they also meet the above requirement.
  8. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  9. Must have a parent (mother or father) with military experience.

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate students who are 23 years of age or younger. Students must be a dependent child of an active duty personnel, reserve/guard, or a retired military member. Dependent children of employees of DoD, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), Public Health Services or other federal or military related agencies or activities are not eligible unless they also meet the above requirement. Students must also have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher and not be married.

Additional Information: Only dependent unmarried children (under the age of 23) of active duty personnel, reserve/guard and retired military members may apply. Eligibility will be determined using the DEERS (Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System) database. Each applicant should ensure that he/she, as well as his/her sponsor (the applicant's parent or guardian is his/her sponsor), is currently enrolled in the DEERS database and that he/she has a current ID card. An applicant can verify enrollment in DEERS by going to www.dmdc.osd.mil and entering his/her social security number, date of birth, and last name. No scholarship will be awarded for those pursuing an associate, second undergraduate or graduate school degree. A student attending a community or junior college must be enrolled in a program of study designed to allow him/her to transfer directly into a four-year program. An applicant who receives an appointment to one of the U.S. military academies (or affiliated preparatory schools) or is awarded a full scholarship at any accredited U.S. postsecondary institution of higher education is not eligible to receive funds from this program.

Award Amount: The amount of each award varies annually. The award will be a minimum of $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Applicants can reapply for the award each year. Except in extremely unusual circumstances, the awards cannot be deferred for future use; the awards must be used for educational expenses incurred during the current academic year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000,000.
