Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately fewer than 1,000 awards are expected to be disbursed.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a parent or guardian who was a member of the Armed Forces and died as a result of performing military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after Sept. 11.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be 24 years of age or younger and be currently enrolled in an undergraduate associate’s or bachelor’s degree program.
  5. Must be currently enrolled at least part-time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. students who are currently enrolled at an accredited postsecondary institution in the U.S. The student must a dependent of a member of the Armed Forces who died as a result of performing military service in Iraq or Afghanistan after Sept. 11, 2001, and who is not receiving a Pell Grant.

Application requirements for the Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants are:

Additional Information: The Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grants program, which became effective on July 1, 2010, will provide non-need-based grants for students whose parent or guardian was a member of the Armed Forces who died in Iraq or Afghanistan as a result of performing military service after September 11, 2001. Grants are awarded to eligible dependents who cannot receive a Pell Grant because of a high Expected Family Contribution (EFC). If the resulting EFC is above the maximum for receipt of a Pell Grant, the student can receive an Iraq and Afghanistan Service Grant in lieu of the Pell Grant. Award Amount: The maximum Service Grant amount is equal to the maximum Pell Grant for a given award year, the current maximum award is up to $5,550 per academic year. Awards may not exceed the student’s cost of attendance and are prorated for part-time enrollment. Awards are not automatically renewable, eligible students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,550.
