Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 700 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Indiana. If the student is determined by FAFSA data to be dependent on his/her parents for financial support, the student's parents must be residents of Indiana since at least Dec. 31 of the previous year. If the student is determined to be independent of their parents, the student must be a resident of Indiana since at least Dec. 31 of the previous year.
  3. Must be a member of the Indiana Air or Army National Guard.
  4. Must attend one of the following eligible Indiana institution; Ball State University, Indiana State University, Indiana University (all campuses), Indiana University/Purdue University-Indianapolis, Indiana University/Purdue University-Fort Wayne, Indiana University/Purdue University-Columbus, Ivy Tech State College (all campuses), Purdue University (all campuses), University of Southern Indiana, Vincennes University, or WGU Indiana.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a high school graduate (including home-schooled students) or have a GED. The student must be seeking his/her first associate or bachelor degree at a state college or university.

Application requirements for the Indiana National Guard Supplemental Grant (NGSG) are:

  • FAFSA
  • Indiana National Guard certification
Additional Information: This program provides tuition assistance at public colleges to eligible members of the Indiana Air and Army National Guard. There is an extension of this scholarship (the National Guard Extension Scholarship: NGES) available to those who have used the NGSG, served on active duty overseas and have left the Guard. Students should contact his/her college or university for additional details.

Award Amount: This award covers up to 100 percent of the cost of tuition costs at eligible colleges and universities in Indiana. Awards does not cover other expenses such as room and board and textbooks. Awards are not automatically renewable, eligible students may re-apply by completing the FAFSA each year. Students can receive a total of eight semesters of award funding.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,518.

Additional information about this award is available from the Indiana Commission for Higher Education Division of Student Financial Aid's (SFA) website. To apply, the student must contact his/her National Guard Unit Commander. The student must complete all the required National Guard paperwork and must have all the paperwork approved by the appropriate National Guard education office. Students must also file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor for state scholarship/grant consideration after January 1st but on or before April 15 to be considered for the award year.
