Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 400 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be an enrolled member of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native group, or can provide documentation of descent (i.e., possess one-fourth degree verifiable federally recognized Indian blood).
  4. Must be pursuing a post-baccalaureate graduate or professional degree at an accredited institution in the United States.
  5. Must be a full-time student.

Description: This fellowship program is open to graduate and professional students who are enrolled members of a federally recognized American Indian or Alaska Native group, or can provide documentation of descent (i.e., possess one-fourth degree verifiable federally recognized Indian blood). Students must demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: All students must demonstrate financial need. Please note: All successful applicants for the AIGC Fellowship are automatically considered for supplemental private scholarships managed by AIGC. These scholarships range from $500 to $5,000 and are awarded based on field of study and other criteria as defined by the donor. Specific information on these funds is available online at www.aigcs.org/scholarships/graduate-fellowships/ under the "Other AIGC Graduate Scholarships" heading.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Awards are not available for the summer. Award amounts may vary depending on the number of qualified applicants, the availability of funds and unmet financial need.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online at the American Indian Graduate Center (AIGC) website. Detailed instructions for creating an account and beginning the application process are available by clicking the "Online Application Instructions" link. Within the online application, the student must submit a statement of 500 words or less describing how receipt of an AIGC Fellowship would help him/her to continue the AIGC mission in his/her community upon completion of his/her degree program. The student is also required to provide a letter of acceptance and proof of enrollment; however, these documents may be submitted at any time prior to awarding of scholarship funds. The completed application must be submitted by June 1. Please note: Each student must also submit a Financial Need Form (FNF) and a Tribal Eligibility Certificate (TEC). The FNF and TEC are available on the AIGC website and are due by July 15. The student must also complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by July 15. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.
