Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 1,636 scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.
  4. Must have a household income of $98,000 or less. If the student's sibling(s) is(are) applying for this scholarship also, the income limit is raised $10,000 for each sibling. Students with special circumstances may apply to show unmet financial need.
  5. Must be the grandchild of one of the following: a U.S. Marine who served with the 4th Marine Division during World War II and is/was a member of their association; a U.S. Marine who served with the 6th Marine Division during World War II and is/was a member of their association; or a U.S. Marine who served in the 531 Gray Ghost Squadron and is/was a member of their association.
  6. Must have a grandparent who served in the Marines.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: High school seniors and current undergraduate students whose grandparent served in certain units of the Marines during World War II are eligible for this scholarship. Students must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher and a household income of $82,000 or less.

Application requirements for the MCSF Scholarship Program for Grandchildren of Marines are:

Additional Information: Scholarships may be awarded to all eligible children in the same family. The scholarship committee, comprised of volunteers and staff, reviews all applications in the spring of each year. Its decisions are based on the family financial situation, academic performance, extracurricular activities, jobs, the military record of the qualifying parent, and any other circumstances that the applicant submits for consideration, with special consideration for those applicants whose parent was killed or wounded in the line of duty. All applicants will be notified by July 15.

Award Amount: Awards range from $500 to $10,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note that the higher-level scholarships are very competitive. Students must reapply each year, and can receive awards a total of four times. The scholarship must be used for the cost of attendance (also defined as the cost of education or student budget) as determined by the financial aid administrator of the student's school. The scholarship may be reduced or withdrawn if it causes the financial aid package the student's school has offered him/her to exceed his/her cost of attendance.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,750.

Applications are available on the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation (MCSF) website under the 'Apply' tab. The student must sign up for an account to access the online application. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: his/her grandparent's certificate of service from the Marine Corps; official and unofficial transcripts from all schools attended; a copy of his/her income tax return; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report) for the year for which he/she is applying. The SAR is generated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials, including the online application form, must be submitted online by the deadline date.
