In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must attend a Maryland two- or four-year college or university.
  3. Must be a resident of Maryland.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.
  7. Must demonstrate financial need.

Description: This award is available to Maryland high school seniors who are planning to attend a Maryland college or university. Students must demonstrate financial need, as determined by the FAFSA.

Application requirements for the Maryland Howard P. Rawlings Educational Assistance (EA) Grant are:

Additional Information: All applicants are ranked by Expected Family Contribution (EFC). Awarding priority is given to renewal applicants and to new applicants with the lowest EFC. The EFC is determined based on the information provided on the FAFSA. The EA Grant may be held with all state awards except the Guaranteed Access Grant. If certain state scholarship awards are accepted, the student's EA Grant will be re-calculated. Funds may not be available to award all students.

Award Amount: Award amounts range from $400 to $3,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years of undergraduate study. The total dollar amount of all state awards may not exceed the student's cost of attendance, as determined by his/her school's financial aid office, or $19,000, whichever is less.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Additional information about this award is available from the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) website. To apply, interested students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor for state scholarship/grant consideration after January 1 but on or before March 1 to be considered for the award year. The MHEC will mail out applications to eligible students who've filed the FAFSA on time.
