Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, there were 34 scholarships given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be or plan to be enrolled in a qualifying Maine-based medical school program.
  4. Must have commenced his/her medical education on or after July 1, 2009.
  5. Must have a substantial connection to the State of Maine.
  6. Must have been a resident of Maine for at least one year for purposes other than education.
  7. Must attend a participating institution. The current participating institutions are Maine Medical Center/Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program (MMC-TUSM) and University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to students who are or will be enrolled in a qualifying Maine-based medical school program. The student must have a substantial connection to Maine and at least one year of residence in Maine for purposes other than education.

Application requirements for the Doctors for Maine’s Future Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Priority must be given to students who meet at least two of the following criteria: the student has received a high school diploma, or its equivalent, in Maine; the student has received a baccalaureate degree from a four year college or university in Maine; the legal residence of the student's parent or legal guardian is in Maine.

Award Amount: Up to 50 percent of the institution's cost of attendance or $25,000 annually, whichever is less. Funds are disbursed twice per year as established by the medical school, typically in the fall and spring semesters. The award is renewable for up to three additional years. Renewal criteria are determined by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $25,000.
