Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 250 scholarships offered each year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Kansas.
  3. Must plan to attend a community college, technical college or a designated four-year institution in the state of Kansas.
  4. Must plan to enroll full time.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be enrolled in a certificate program or an undergraduate associate’s or bachelor’s degree program.
  7. Must be enrolled in a designated high demand; critical industry program of study. Note: A list of eligible programs is available from the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) website.

Description: This award is available to Kansas undergraduate students who are planning to enroll in a certificate/two-year vocational-technical program.

Additional Information: The Vocational Education Scholarship Program was established by the 1987 Kansas Legislature to provide financial assistance to full-time students who enroll in designated one- or two-year vocational programs. Designated programs are located at various Kansas area technical colleges, community colleges, Kansas State University - Salina, several four-year colleges and proprietary schools. Awards are made based on enrollment in designated high demand, critical industry programs of study, with priority given to applicants with the greatest financial need as measured by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Only certificate and selected two-year degree programs are included among the designated technical programs. Students with, or applying for, baccalaureate degrees are not eligible for funding.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 annually, renewable for an additional year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Additional information about this program is available from the Kansas Board of Regents (KBOR) website, from high school counselor, or at college financial aid offices. To apply, students must complete Sections A & B of the application and submit the form to the Student Financial Aid Office at the postsecondary institution in which he/she will be enrolled, for the completion of Section C. The institution will then forward the application to the Kansas Board of Regents for award consideration. The priority deadline to apply is May 1 each year.
