Whitman is a wonderful place for curious minds. Challenging academics push students to reach their fullest potential. The small population in the school allows for opportunities to be involved in many places. Campus is beautiful, and Walla Walla is the jem of Eastern Washington.

I am constantly reminded of what a good decision I made to apply and attend Whitman College. Whether it is when I am watching the A Capellas perform, listening to various lectures, or just hanging out with my friends--I am all-in-all content with going to this college. The best thing about this school would have to be the people--hands down. They're funny, engaging, and just brilliant; it's an entirely different world here.

I absolutely love Whitman! I couldn't have made a better college decision.
It is the perfect size! It's the size of my high school ~1500, but ITS NOTHING LIKE HIGH SCHOOL. Everybody is so nice, there aren't any clicks. Class sizes are great, the intro classes are a little bigger...but that is to be expected at any school.
The professors at Whitman go out of their way to help you out with anything you might need! I've had professors have morning classes at their house, just because. I've had other professors invite me over to their house for dinner when I asked if they could help me with a concept. Professors have set aside an hour a week to meet with just me to make sure I felt confident with what we were learning. THEY ARE SO NICE and care so much about their students.
The classes are interesting, and filled with students that are genuinely there to learn. Every student is ready to learn, engaged, and happy to be there. Classes are filled with engaging discussion and usually entertaining as well.
The social life is great. People (including myself when I was considering whitman) are always worried about Walla Walla being in the middle of nowhere and it being boring. Boy, that was the biggest concern for me. But if I had just listened to my tour guide or any of the students I met while I was there--my decision would have been a lot easier. THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO AT WHITMAN FOR FUN. They bring in amazing speakers, comedians, events, bands, BOUNCY HOUSES that are free of charge to all students to attend. For those who are interested in the party scene, there is one at Whitman too. We have our own radio station for people who are interested in DJ'ing, or having their own talk show! There is sooo much to do at Whitman for fun that you actually won't have a free night if you chose to take advantage of everything there is to do at Whitman. (P.S. On Nov. 30th, our Events Board is bringing Frank Warren, the creator of Post Secret to Campus to give a talk and for a Q&A...how cool is that?!?!?!)
But one key thing about every Whitman student is that every single one of us is here for our education first. So before you tell yourself "but I want a school that is by the beach, or a school that is in the big city"...think to yourself this "I want a school where every student is there to learn, because I'm going to college to learn first and have fun second". Our education is our number one priority. That's not to say whitman is a depressing funless school (for reassurance see the paragraph above this), but it does say something about the character of our students. We work hard, we play hard. I would go so far as to say that I am getting the FULL college experience at Whitman. A world class education, with a traditional college experience.
I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE.

Whitman is a small college in a small town in the middle of wheat fields. Whitman has received a respectable reviews in several college guides. People come here for the academics. Like any college, it is what you make of it. I worked hard to receive a quality education, although there are some who just go through the motions and get by. The professors were generally very dedicated, friendly and accessible.
This place can feel very small, but there is always something scheduled. It may not interest you, though.
I always looked forward to going home.

I think Whitman is the exact same size it needs to be. It's big enough to where you can meet a new person each day but small enough to get all the necessary help you might need for any subject in school. Upon coming here I was fearful of what lied ahead, but within the first week so many people introduced myself to me that I felt I would have no trouble feeling comfortable in the next 4 years!

Whitman itself is tiny, but it's as small as you want it to be. Explore, find new niches, make new friends, and the world expands.

Whitman is an amazing school, but the most important factor is the quality of kids. All of the kids i have met so far are bomb. They are all very outgoing yet also very dedicated to their beliefs and passions. Looking around i can see that many people will affect the world. People here are extremely environmentally conscious and the school itself is too. If i could change one thing it would be to have a little more school spirit.

Whitman is a small school, so you get to know a lot of people. It generally feels a lot warmer and more accepting than a bigger university environment. This being said, even though Whitman is small, you won't meet everyone in the school, so you're constantly seeing and meeting new people, which is really fun.
Just because Whitman has only 1500 students doesn't mean that we are a boring, study-obsessed campus. People here like to have fun and party on weekends! I

The first thing people ask me about Whitman, is not actually about Whitman itself. Rather it's about the town Whitman where the school is located: Walla Walla, Washington. Walla Walla is a pretty small down in southeastern Washington, about five miles north of the Oregon border. It's famous for the onions and the wine, but most people, upon hearing about the town, wonder how Whitman kids survive living in such a small town (especially since we have quite a few kids from bigger cities).
First: Walla Walla is a really adorable place. Whitman's campus hits the main street (coincidentally called Main St.) of town, upon which lots of festivities take place, like the old car show and festival, for example (never in my life have I seen so many beautiful old cars in one place). Things like this are not uncommon around Walla Walla; the town itself has a lot to offer, and students enjoy partaking in these activities.
Second: the college KNOWS that we're a bit off the beaten path and that we too would appreciate access to concerts, speakers, and other big events. Which is exactly what the college provides. Guest speakers in years past have included Howard Zinn, Ralph Nader, Alina Fernandz, Marjane Satrapi, Salman Rushdie, and Frank Warren; performers like the Blue Scholars, Flogging Molly, Girl Talk, Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Folds, and United State of Electronica have also done shows at Whitman College. It's safe to say that there is always something to do on a Friday or Saturday night.
Third: the weather. One might not think that the weather should have such an influence on where he or she goes to college, but trust me, it's a big deal. The weather in Walla Walla is great. Where I come from, we really only have two seasons: wet and dry. Walla Walla has actual seasons and for the most part, it's quite warm. The summers get real hot, and in the winter it snows. Let me tell you, having the seasonal changes is really fun.
