A lot of country "red necks", a lot of frat kids, and many students from new jersey.. While those groups are all represented they are not overwhelming by any means.

Some common stereotypes at WVU are that jocks, well mostly basketball and football, are looked up to as "gods." Frat boys are just people who pay to party. Stoners do nothing but smoke and eat fast food. Geeks are considered to be those who do not skip class. These stereotypes are not accurate- just like any other stereotype. Yes, one person may fit these accusations to a t, but not every.

I would have to say that the most common stereotype would be party animals. I do not agree with this stereotype because the school offers much more than that.

WVU has a party school stereotype. While this stereotype holds true for some students, there are several students that excel in their programs and successfully achieve their goals. It is what you decide to make it.

West Virginia University has a reputation as a party school, so, most students are stereotyped as slackers who are only concerned with getting drunk. I think that this stereotype is very inaccurate, in my experience many WVU students are dedicated, hard working, goal oriented people who are more concerned with doing well in school than partying all the time. Personally I have a 3.92 GPA and school work always takes priority over going to parties.

Most people refer to WVU as a drinking school. Yes the social life is vibrant in Morgantown, but that is not all that defines this university. The mountaineers have the deepest pride in their community! From football games to basketball game to just walking around campus the famous flying WV is everywhere to be found. At West Virginia University you have the opportunity to become a part of numerous different clubs or groups that all share a love for WVU.

One of the major stereotypes about WVU is that all people care about is partying. While there is a great deal of drinking and partying going on, that is not what most people are here for. I would venture to say the majority of people at WVU are here to learn, not drink.

When a lot of people hear that I go to WVU, they go, "Oh yeah, the party school." But I am always quick to inform them that this is not always the case. Sure if that's what you're into you can go out and find all the parties, but it's the same way at every college. There are a lot of other groups of students here too. You have greek life, which consists of social, professional, and academic fraternities and sororities (meaning its not always just your typical frat guy or sorority girl who just wants to party). WVU is also very competitive in sports, not only in the big east, but at a club level too, so we have lots of students athletes that are attending here as well.

WVU has a very solid "party school" reputation. It is very typical to find kids at the school whose focus is more on partying than getting an education. You will also find a "redneck" stereotype because of the state of West Virginia in general.
