Research, research, research !!! Go to the schools you might want to choose. Talk to the faculty, the financial aid office, the admissions office and mostly, talk to several students who are currently attending. Ask lots of questions about financial aid, faculty support and student success.

Perhaps surprisingly, getting a degree is not the most important consideration for choosing a college or university to attend. A degree can be obtained anywhere: a prestigious university, a state school, a community college, or the internet. The degree, while important, is not what one should primarily consider when selecting a school for oneself or one's child. Rather, it is the quality of the overall education that the student will receive. Persistently ask oneself and those at the school the following questions: do the staff and faculty members at this school invest in the students in and outside of the classroom? Do students invest in each other? Does the school provide a space that fosters the academic, mental, moral, social, and spiritual aspects of the student? If these three aspects are not the strengths of a school, do not select it. A degree can be obtained anywhere. But a life-changing and personally enriching experience is invaluable, and should be sought above all else.
