Besides the great education, I've made friendships with people who I don't believe I could've made friendships with at any other college. The size of a campus was my biggest concern. It was important for me that I didn't feel like just another number on campus. I wanted to be able to know my professor one-on-one and Virginia Wesleyan has done a superb job with student to teacher ratios. I wasn't very active in high school so I knew that when I attended college I wanted to be more involved. Virginia Wesleyan offers a great deal of activities. From more traditional activities like sports and greek life to the more unsual activities like the zombie club. At Virginia Wesleyan one can honestly live up to the Marlin slogan "Bring a Spark, Light a Fire."

I came to Virginia Wesleyan to run cross country and track, but found so much more. I have had great professors, who I now consider to be friends. This small school has allowed me to fit in two majors in a matter of three and a half years; an opportunity I would not have had at a small school. The Honors program here has given me chances to go on cool trips for free to things like Lion King on Broadway and an Admirals Hockey Game. My friends here are great and I love seeing someone whenever I walk accross campus. Although the food here is horrible, I am glad I am at VWC. Not to mention the beach is really close to school and I found an awesome church in the area.

Though I have only been attending Virginia Wesleyan College for one semester now I have learned and experienced more than I would have imagined, and I also discovered I can do anything I put my mind to. Academically I have learned and developed more than I did in one year of high school. I've really found out how to manage my time and different classes. I found that whenever I have free time I should use it for studying. I have also discovered not what to do at college by observing my colleagues who have made rather wrong decisions. While college is a time to have fun it is also a time to prepare for the future which is something I value. When it comes to balancing fun and work at college I will always put preparing for my future first. I know anything I put my mind to I will accomplish and I intend to graduate with a B.S. in biology 2014.

When I began college, I expected to become home-sick. Instead I gained new friendships and learned more about my inner self. The college atomsphere has allowed me to become an independent individual, and has exposed me to diversity. Three weeks before the start of my freshman year at James Madison University, I received a notification from Coach Renn, the tennis coach at Virginia Wesleyan College. I was being given an opportunity to play tennis and volleyball at a D3 school, the only price I would have to pay would be giving up the school that I had always claimed as the college I was attending. But was James Madison really the right fit for me? Something in my gut told me to give Virginia Wesleyan a chance, and I have never regretted the decision since. So far in my freshman year of college I have been given opportunities that I would not be able to receive at James Madison. VWC has given me the chance to stick out as an individual through my academics and athletics. At VWC I’m not just another number, I’m a contributing student that attends various programs offered through the school, contributes to the surrounding community, and supports my school by attending various sporting events. Deciding to come to Virginia Wesleyan was the best decison that I have made so far. I really feel that VWC is the right fit for me.

At first I did not give college a chance. I went to a college close to my home town. Many people told me repeatedly what a mistake it would be. They told me "you'll never get the true college experience being so close to home." You know something they were right. I couldn't stand being away from my parents, which is the opposite of most people. I had that urge of coming home. I didn't even want to spend a night when I first moved on campus. I wanted to live at home. I hear the naggingof "I told you" and "You're going to miss out on so much." If it weren't for tennis I would still probably go home every night right after my classes end. Today I still live at home, but it's different. I want to be at Virginia Wesleyan all the time. I stay on campus as much as I possibly can. I plan on living with one of my friends next year in a nicer dorm. Even though I commute I have made so many friends. I feel like the college experience is defined differently for everyone.

My college experience at Virginia Wesleyan College has been really interesting and enjoyable. I am a junior at VWC majoring in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a concentration in Management. When I was a senior in high school I had many options for schools which were a very difficult decision. As I began to narrow the schools down, I was unsure of Virginia Wesleyan because of the cost, but because of scholarships like the Campus Discovery Survey, I am able to continue my educational process. I have received many things so far on my educational track. Going to a private college the classes are a lot smaller than other schools that I was interested in. The one-on-one availability with your professors is something that I love and enjoy. My college emphasizes helping others and engaging in community service. This month we had a homeless shelter at our school which I volunteered at; the experience was so humbling and I was so thankful that I was able to give back and make a difference in the lives of others. I feel that VWC has been very valuable to attend because of the numerous resources and opportunities that it offers.

I've grown alot since I was a freshman, I learn alot about myself as a person and feel like I can learn more. I made great new friends and even though I stopped playing basketball, it help me realize a athlete isn't all I am. I'm way more than that which made me more confident as a person. I'm enjoying my college experience and is very valuable to me.

Even though I have only been in college for a couple of months, I feel as though I have gained plenty of experience. Living on my own has been one of those valuable experiences that have taught me many lessons about growing up. It teaches me to be self-motivated about many aspects of my life including school work and social life. Also, living in a community has been crucial to my learning experiences. This aspect has taught me to make friendships with those people that I can relate to. These relationships will prove to be beneficial as I mature through the rest of my life. My college experience has been nothing but, another step in understanding the world around me.

In the Fall 2010 Semester and the 2011 Winter Semester that I am currently attending, I have found a place that allows diversity and creativity to work together to create a better environment not only for the college campus but for the community. I have broken through stereotypes of others as well as my own. My experience at Virginia Wesleyan as let me know that I do have a chance to not only make a difference in this country but also overseas with all of their opportunities that they have available to the students here.
