All my professors know my name, but that is only because I make a point of having all my professors know my name. My professors are all very intelligent and extremely helpful. I would say for my department at least learning is geared towards learning for the sake of learning, which of course is how it should be. Any skill I will need I will be able to learn on the job. College should be about making sure that I CAN learn the skills I need to learn. Learning how to learn, more or less.

I came to VCU thinking I was going to be in huge classes. Since I am in the art program (AFO) I don't really experience that. All of my classes (including a Spanish 101 and English class that I thought would be huge) are 20-25 people and the professors certainly know each students' name. Since the student body is so big it is impossible to generalize the students and their study skills. There are definitely some people who go out every single night and never study, and there are some people who study all the time. The academic advisers are really helpful. The only problem I have had is that in the art program it is so strict as to outside classes you can take. It's really not recommended to take classes that don't pertain to your major which I found frustrating.

professors know my name b/c i take time to form relationships with them-- they will not if you do not. Favorite class: Marriage and Family relationships Least favorite: Human Biology. I study often and I have found a friend group that does as well. Class participation is common. Yes--> intellectual conversation. I am competitive and so are a lot of the people that I know.

Some of my professors know my name, but nursing school is a small community becuase there's no time to have a life outside of it. Some students study all the time. You'll see regulars at the library. And yes, VCU students have intellectual conversations outside of class, depending on who you hang out with. SOme people want to talk politics and others want to tell fart jokes...whatever. It's always interesting. Students are competitive. Take human sexuality with Professor Rankin, everyone loves it.
Nursing school will take over your entire life. There's not really a lot of time to have fun outside of it but you'll be challenged and you'll also be extremely competent when you get out. Girls are caddy and you will have at least two arguments over group projects. But if you choose this field, then get used to it because it's dominated by women. This is one of the most rewarding and difficult majors at VCU. You'll watch your classmates drop like flies by the end, which makes it even more rewarding for you when you graduate. It's fun and it will make you cry at some point, but you'll develop a raunchy sense of humor that every nurse can relate to.

Not all professors know your name... it is on you to get to know your professors. My favorite class would have to be my French class that i took. I loved my professor, he was the nicest guy and really got to know his students. My least class was actually this semester and it was Economics.. The teacher was horrible and not understanding at all. I get really frustrated with teachers when they dont realize that we need to have a life outside of school and they give us so much to do. I understand its college and its supposed to be hard but some people have to work and have a life outside of school and its really hard to do all that when you have a professor giving you so much work. Everytime I go into the library, all the tables are filled up. I believe that a good majority of the students at VCU do study a lot. Class participation is more common in the smaller classrooms rather than the lecture halls. Students are definitely competitive. I'm not sure what the most unique class i have taken. I am in the business department and I really dont have anything bad to say excpet some of the teachers need to be checked. I dont spend time with professors outside of class unless i have to. I feel that VCU's academic requirements are fair.

I am in The School of the Arts at VCU so my academic experience is different than other majors. The art program is internationally ranked and I can tell why. It is very very intense. I do have a lot more work than most of my friends in non art majors. It is supposed to be about 6 hours of outside work per each 3 hour studio class but I think I do more than that. My studio classes are no larger than 18 people so the professors do get to give you a lot of personal feedback and work with you on a semi-individual level. The first year art program (Art Foundations) is very work intensive for a reason though and I feel like I'm getting a really good education.

I don't think many of my professors know me by name, but I'm sure they know my face. In addition, I have been able to meet my TAs pretty well.

In the smaller classes, professors really make an effort to learn names. My name is fairly unusual so most people remember it.
My favorite class is with my favorite professor in my major. She pushes us but only for our benefit.
Class participation is encouraged and occurs most of the time.
Students are very competitive here since we have over 30,000 students at this institution.
My major is Mass Communications with a focus on broadcast journalism. I am studying to be involved in television news.
My professors are always available via email if I have questions about something.
VCU isn't one of the hardest universities to get into but it's fairly hard to stay in. They are very strict with academic probation and they don't mess around with GPA.
I think VCU students are aimed at getting jobs. Most students that I know of have gotten jobs when they graduated or have continued on to grad school.

In general all my professors know my name. My favorite class is my advertising campaigns class. Students tend to study alot. The library and lounge areas are always or mostly full. Class participation is only common for small classes (under 50 students). Students are very competitive. The most unique class so far is my world religions class. I am in the school of Mass Communications. I am very satisfied with my department. The staff members have alot of real world experiance that extends to the classroom. VCU students hold quite a few intellectual conversations outside of class many student organizations invite guest speakers, conduct forums, and panels. I do not spend time with professors outside of class. VCU academic requirements are sensible. VCU education seems to be geared toward learning for its own sake.
