University of Washington-Bothell Campus Top Questions

There doesn't seem to be a large amount of stereotypes at the University of Washington Bothell. There seems to be a lot of people at the school that fit into the oxymoron category of stereotypes, where people can be really intelligent, but also love to be outdoors and doing sports. Compared to the Seattle campus the people seem to be very involved in the community and relaxed (i.e. people dressing for comfort and not showing off). There are all types of people at the Bothell campus, and new student can for sure find people that are similar to their own personality.

This stereotype is accurate in regard to the definition of hipsters being the embodiment of progressive fringe movements. A majority of the first and second year students are environmentally conscious, anti mass-media, and affirm the motives of the Occupy Wall Street movement. The student body is very environmentally conscious in the fact that a large number of people use personal mugs and either carpool or use public transportation to reduce emissions. In regards to attire there is very few people who wear name brand clothing. Most students wear off-brand clothes that they purchased at Good Will or a flea market. Finally, there is a very prominent and active movements for support of public education, human rights, sustainability, and grass roots support for economic equity. Ultimately, the students transcend the "mainstream" and seek to achieve a greater level of critical thinking in regards to societal and cultural structures. They serve as a microcosm for the uncertainty felt by the ever displaced middle class in terms of future social status. They keep the doors to the future open by not closing off their possibilities to solely the dominant cultural direction.
