I don't think there are any activities or groups that are really the most popular on campus. Some might say the Greek system is the most popular, but only around 20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students are actually involved in Greek life. There are way too many groups/clubs/organizations to choose from, and they're all popular. USD students are very into getting involved. I met some of my closest friends through a Pre-Orientation Outdoor Adventure trip before school even started. It all depends on what you're interested in. If you like it, USD probably has a club for it.

The most popular student organization is probably either Greek Life or the sports clubs/teams. I rushed a sorority this year, but decided against it because of financial reasons. I have so many friends in all the sororites though and it really does give you a great chance to make friends, get involved and get connected socially. The students here take a while to break their shell and become friends with, but once they're your friend, they are a friend for life. People are nice here, something I was looking for in a college. On weekend, lots of people go down to the beach and just hang out in a house with some friends or head to downtown for dinner and a movie or to go dancing. Even though partying seems prominent on our campus, there are always events hosted by the school on the weekends for the non-partiers. Overall, the students pride themselves in the activities they are involved in and how it'll benefit them in the future with jobs and further education.

By far the most popular organizations on campus are the greek fraternities and sororities. I am the associate editor of The Vista, the university's newspaper. I love it and have found my niche with this and have made some great friend through my job as editor. Athletic events are not so popular. Only the big games, such as when we play Gonzaga or SDSU in basketball or UCLA in soccer, are well attended (about 3000 plus). I have met my closest friends either through editing at The Vista or through my dorm freshman year. Fraternities and sororities are about 1/4 of the student population, but they definitely do not run the school. If you are not in them, there are definitely clubs out there for everyone.

The residential life of campus is great--the community directors and RA's do tons of programming for their residents. Every year, the univeersity has a celebrity perform at Homecoming. Sean Kingston came a couple of years ago. Students do party, but not really on campus. Everyone migrates to the beach at night.

Great school for study abroad opportunities. A little over 85{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students study abroad and they have numerous closely affiliated programs where all classes transfer back as grades rather than pass/fail. Athletics aren't too popular although the teams are fairly good, but play in a smaller division (Divisions I, WCC). Greek life is present but not that big. You don't have to be in a fraternity or sorority in order to have things to do or to meet people. The on campus dorms freshman year are pretty nice. So are the sophomore apartments. Food on campus is good. Lots of events happening on campus, but they aren't very heavily attended. On the weekends people go to parties and to hang out at their friends' places on the beach.
