University of Rhode Island Top Questions

Politics on campus are gross. The College Democrats are a bunch of whiny liberal pushovers and the College Republicans are a bunch of ultra-conservative and often blatantly offense blowhards. The best bet is to disassociate yourself from any particular party and play the "moderate" card. Otherwise, you're going to get lumped in with these d-bags. They truly represent the worst parts of their respective parties. Partying happens a lit, but that's college baby. The trick is to find the balance. Work hard AND play hard, otherwise you run a good chance of flunking out or burning out. I worked myself way to hard my first semester and didn't have any fun, and the next semester I failed a class. Some times it's ok to blow off your work to go have fun, just don;t let it be a habit. They weren't joking when they told you that when college is over the things you're really going to remember are the times you skipped class to go to the beach. Fun and friends last a lot longer than lectures and books. That doesn't mean be a screw-up, it just means chillax: your GPA does not define you, but it doesn't hurt either.

Every April the Student Alumni Association throws a huge event called Oozeball. Essentially this is volleyball in the mud, but it is much more than that. Every year we get to feel like kids again standing in mud that comes up to our knees, but your clothing will never come clean again!

Student Entertainment Committee and Greek life are most popular. I'm involved in everything. Students leave their doors open and it is always a friendly atmosphere. If I am awake at 2 am on a Tuesday odds are we got back from Casey's wing night at 1 and we are sleeping. Traditions - homecoming, greek week, ooze ball, relay for life, st. judes up til dawn. People party 2 to 3 times a week. The dating scene is good. Lots of good people and I am very happy with my girlfriend now. I met my closest friend through Greek Life. Athletic events are definitely popular. The basketball team is awesome and even though football is not good, homecoming was packed to to bottom in the bleachers. Fraternity and Sorority life is huge at URI. Last weekend I went to a couple of parties. Saturday night... Providence, go see a movie, hockey game, concerts. Off campus we live.
