I would tell myself that I think it is a good idea to go to college after high school. It's easier for you to go then than wait until you are older. Everything is fresh in your mind and you will have an easier time. It's all worth it.

The advice I would give to my high school self would be, join the Illinois Air National Guard before you go to college. I have a couple of reasons for giving myself this advice. The first reason is obvious, the Guard will pay for college. The second reason is I was not ready for college, right after high school. I was not ready to handle the stress of being the first one out of my family to attend college and I was not ready to be away from my family. I attened one year of college and dropped out, then joined the ILANG. If I would have known then what I know now, I would have joined the military first.

If there is one thing I have learned from my experiences and my mistakes, it was that procrastination and self doubt has seriously hindered y progress. While it is fun to hang out with friends and go to social gatherings, your main goals must always be put first. I lost sight of that when I entered college and it has done me more harm than good. Always focus on what you need to do before setting out on doing what you want to do. You won't go through the same suffering that I had as a result.

Well, here we go again self. I hate to say this, but life is hard. You're going to run into some trouble, and you're not going to know how to handle it. I really want you to sit down, take a break, and think about what it is you truly want out of life. Who are you? Where do you want to be? You are going to decide to go to college for your Associate Degree in medical assisting, but I am here to tell you that once you graduate, that is not where your heart lies. You want to be a psychologist, helping those whom cannot help themselves. You're going to realize that this is something you have dreamed of for a very long time, and that you were born to do this. You're going to enroll in the University of Phoenix, and remain pleased throughout your stay. Please remember to stay true to yourself, and keep your head held high. Obtaining your GED did not make you less of a woman, you did go back to school. Breathe deep and keep your eyes on the prize. You can do it. You will fly high.

I know that you are going through some very difficult times right now. You don't see a light at the end of the tunnel. Just know that you can overcome any obstacles you encounter. God has a plan for your life just trust your instincts. Don't take your parents alcohol addiction as a personal attack against yourself. Believe in yourself, you can be anything you want in life. Never rely on others for happiness this is something you must find within yourself. I know college is something you can only dream of. Look for alternative sources of support and information to get there. I know it's hard being a first generation high school graduate. Please attend your graduation and let your principal know that your parents won't pay for your cap and gown. You can do this...

Believe in yourself.

If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to actually get to the point becoming a high school senior and graduating high school. Dropping out of high school was the biggest mistake I ever made. After I went through getting married and having children, I was not proud of the example I was setting for my children. I started studying and a few months later I earned my GED. Even with that I have continued to struggle. I finally decided that I needed to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I needed an online environment and I found the perfect one. I 'm so happy with myself for making the decision to get back into school. My advice to myself would be to finish high school and get into college while you are still young. The longer you wait the harder it will be to get back into the swing of going to school. The struggle is worth it, I know I am setting better example for my children to follow. I wish I would have made this decision a long time ago.

I know that you might think your life is going to be over when High School ends. The truth is that, it's just beginning. The world is a scary and beautiful place. When your guidance counselor helps you fill out College applications, take it seriously. You only live once and you can rely on your parents for a lot of things, but finding your own happiness is something only you can do. College is the first step to becoming an actual adult. You will not have teachers reminding you to turn in all your work or giving you a lot of breaks. So, make the decision to pick a school that has programs that you find yourself being excited about. If you get excited about your course of study than you are making the right decision. Picking out your college/major is a defining point in your life, so make it well worth it and never ever give up on yourself or your dreams. We only get one shot in this lifetime, going to College will pave the way for a better life. So please heed my advice, take the bull by the horns and create your own destiny.

If I could go back and tell myself about college life and making the transition, I would tell myself to apply, apply, and apply some more for scholarships. I would also tell myself to keep taking the ACT test until I reach a better score. College is no joke. I've always said I was going to participate in college activities and go to all the football games and be one of those sorority girls that you see. I said I was going to graduate from a good campus school and get a good career going so I can help my family and be successful. Little did I know those plans was not going to happen, and I'm ok with it. College cost a lot. If I would have kept taking the ACT until I reached a better score I wouldn't be struggling to pay for college. If I would have taken every opportunity I could to apply for dozens and dozens of scholarships, I wouldn't have so much stress in trying to find ways to pay for school. I would tell myself to be passionate about finding scholarships the way I'm passionate about my education.

As a senior I would tell myself to follow my dreams because nothing is to hard if you put your mind to it. The only limitation you will have will be yourself and therefore don't let your fears get in the way. It is important to look at all your options when it comes to what school you decide on and decide on a school that would fit you for the life style you want to live and the way you desire to learn.
