I wouldn't say there are any particular type of OU Students. Most of them are easy going Oklahoma and Texas people. I would say that the Greek system absolutely dominates the scene. I feel everyone who is well regarded is from the Greek System.
Sandra
From what I have heard people think that OU students are pretty snobby. I have also heard that OU is the UT of Oklahoma.
Reese
That there isn't a lot of diversity and that a majority of the activities are created by or for the Greek system.

The main stereotypes that I am surrounded by include Greek stereotypes, like what each sorority and fraternity chapter is perceived as. For instance, different houses make up songs and chants that bash other houses for being too slutty, drunk or maybe even pyhsicaly large. It is actually pretty disgusting to see the way people belittle other people for being in a different house. Many students that I have been surrounded by define themselves by their house and judge others based on the house that they are in.

Once, in NYC, a guy in a leather jacket asked me if I rode buffalos. I told him yes, of course, and that I'd rode one all the way to the Big Apple. Redneck, staunch Bible-thumpers, cheap beer-guzzlers--just a few off the top of my head.
If you ask someone on campus where people are generally from, they'll most likely say, "Texas and Tulsa." This is true--but I've met fellow peers native to Cali, Arizona, Spain, London, France, the Bronx, India...you name it, we got it.
I even had a rad Muslim Poly. Sci. professor named Mohomad from Morocco.
The Greek Scene:
fake blonde, fake-baked, Ugg boots, says "like" and "totally" every two seconds = sorority stereotype
Polo shirts, popped collars, Business major, says "dude" and "bro" every two seconds = frat stereotype
Bottom line--they exist, but it's not true for all. I've worn both hats--Chi Omega and GDI--both are legit.
Football. Okay, it's a HUGE deal. I won't lie, I'm named after Lindsey St because it runs by Owen Field. Many bleed crimson, quite literally (my dad, a Sooner alum, wants his ashes scattered in the endzone). But, on any given Saturday, I could do any of the following and be completely in my element:
a) paint myself red and scream my lungs out at a game
b) discuss relativism and Nietzsche smoking hookah at the local hookah bar
c) pack a picnic, knitting needles, and a few barefoot hippie friends and head to a local coffee shop for home-brewed beer
d) strut the poppin' bar scene in my best knock-off Prada.

OU Stereotypes.. hmmm.. Well, I came from a relatively smaller school and graduated with a class of 250 and was the first from the high school to come to OU. Thus, it was basically a leap of faith with a scholarship that made my decision. I had no idea of what I would be getting into. Although movies like Van Wilder, Old School, etc. made me think I was going to be a timid freshman going into a non-stop party.
OU Students...same thing. I knew one person before coming here who was a year ahead of me that I had met at a high school student council camp a couple years before and she was friendly? Man, I was cluuueelllesss.

When I decided to pick OU as my university, my friends back home made fun of Oklahoma because it is said to be a "fly-over state" (you don't do anything there except fly over). You might also be thinking that people here are rednecks because Oklahoma is in the center of the US.
But I just love it here. I'm from a big city but love the countryside. Norman is a small-sized city but Oklahoma City is 20minutes away. There is always something to do on campus anyways. There is a big international community and people are from everywhere, inside and outside of the United States ! Plus, Oklahoma has that southern style kind of living and everybody is very friendly.

The biggest stereotype is that OU revolves around the greek system and that OU is full of a bunch of spoiled rich kids.
Royce
That OU is strictly all about sports and that money that could be used for academics and scholarships is instead given to the football program.
