For the most part

I came to UNC with these stereotypes in mind, but during my four years here I have seen little evidence for any of them. Many students at UNC are liberal, but there is also a strong and vocal conservative presence, notably voiced in the publication Carolina Review, which has far more resources and success than any possible liberal rival. Most UNC students are in fact liberal arts majors. Although these degrees may not have the same job guarantee as a Mechanical Engineering degree from NC State, they are applicable in their own right if the student does well in school and takes initiatives pursuing internships and job opportunities. Finally, concerning how "gay" UNC is, I have found that this stereotype is largely unfounded. A native of Raleigh, I have spent plenty of time at NC State, where I have come across many more members of the homosexual community than in Chapel Hill. I think the stereotype may result from the more relaxed and tolerant nature of Chapel Hill that allows homosexuals, and everyone else, to be more open.

Sure, there are people in every group that can be described as all of the above. However, I don't feel that it represents the majority of people at UNC.
