Administration really likes to use the word "diversity," which is pretty ironic given the fact that there really isn't any on campus. Most of the kids who go to UNH are either from New Hampshire or some other state in New England. Maybe that's why everyone seems to be white and wearing an Abercrombie and Fitch hoodie. Walking around campus, you'll see a lot of denim mini skirts and flip flops, not to mention a lot of sweatpants. Most of the people you'll meet grew up in the suburbs and went to a public high school. If you look a little deeper than this though, you'll find that there are plenty of smaller groups of people who don't fit this overall image. UNH has a great outdoor education program and is big into environmental action, so there are plenty of hippies who hang out on Thompson Hall Lawn playing Frisbee and climbing trees. Every year, there's a solar powered music festival which is always full of dreadlocked heads. There's also College Woods, an on campus area full of trees and walking paths for anyone who happens to be outdoorsy. And then there are a lot of very politically active students, most of whom are registered democrats. For this reason, it's easy to be informed about politics and everything else that's going on in the world. For every person who fits the mold of the public school student who doesn't go to class and lives off of Ramen noodles, there's someone well dressed enough and intellectually motivated enough to prove them wrong. A lot people see college as a bubble where you're cut off from the world. My experience has been the opposite. Because of how politically aware this campus is, I actually find it harder to stay informed when I'm not here.

I think UNH is filled with organizations that anyone can place themselves in and have a great time while being here.

ON campust i have not met many people that are not white. I didnt until i went abroad and spent alot of time in Australia with aboriginal people. People usually wear sweats to class or jeans and a t-shirt. Most people are from new hampshire, and it sucks meeting poeople cause they all had like 50 other people from their school go here.

Caryn

I think that this campus is very diverse so everyone has a place somewhere. Majority of students wear sweats or jeans to class, people are very casual here. I think a lot of people here are upper middle class or upper class. This campus seems to be pretty politically aware and I would say that a majority of people are left handed.

Sarah

Not a lot of ethnic diversity. Out of place if you dont like large schools or are social if you like the city. Jeans or sweatpants. Segregated by cliques and what youre involved in. Football/sports, frat, hippies, and normal girls. Middle class financial. Some students are politically aware, its up to individuals to become educated. centers? Yes money is key in jobs.

I feel like UNH welcomes all types of students, and that not too many groups would feel out of place. I feel like they have many clubs and groups that involve all people, and do not leave anyone out. I feel like these groups give people the chance to interact, different or not. At the dining hall I see the tables divided a lot by groups, clubs, and residence halls. UNH students are from everywhere and every type of financial backrounds. I think many are politically active with their demonstrations on T Hall Lawn etc. I feel as if UNH has a very diverse culture.

Ryan

i dont reall have any relations with those groups on campus. i find that alot of people on campus where UNH apparel. UNH students interact with different groups but now being affililated with greek life, mostly greek people hang out with greek people. i feel like alot of UNH students are from New Hampshire. i dont hear epople talking about politics or how much they will earn one day.
