University of Nebraska-Lincoln Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about University of Nebraska-Lincoln? Why?

Timothy

The worst thing about my school, specifically the School of Music, is overcrowding. The building is very old, there aren't enough large classrooms, and practice rooms can be difficult to find at high traffic hours. Making matters worse is the fact that half of the rooms are reserved for piano majors and while oyu can use them, they can kick you out without warning. The best way to counterct this is to try and schedule your practicing for later at night when it's just you and the crazy cellist who practice 11 hours every day.

For me personally, it's a little far from home. It can also be kind of unorganized.

The worst thing is walking to class during winter. It gets pretty cold in Nebraska and winters can be harsh, so walking across capmus gets old fast.

Shelby

The cost. I am even an in State resident and I am finding it extreamly hard to pay for. I applied for numerous scholarships and only got loans that are now building intrest.

Sarah

The worst thing about UNL is probably its size. I think it makes it harder for students in their first couple of years to really hone in on a subject that they are interested because of all the core classes we are expected to complete first.

Sarah

The worst thing about my school is that it's so big. I came from a high school whose population was 200 students. I graduated from a class of 36 students and coming here for somewhat of a culture shock. I do like that not everyone knows everything about me now, but my professors still do not always know who I am and I do not feel like I have the same security in my classes because I can be sometimes afraid of asking for help and I do not know my professors well enough.

Melissa

The worst thing about The University of Nebraska, Lincoln is the financial aid process. They offer few to no scholarships for students who are good students, but came from a class that had a lot of academic geniuses. My GPA was a 3.85 when I graduated and I got no scholarships. Most of the time you get a regence scholarship (everything paid), or nothing. I think this is something they could really work on to accomodate and be more inviting to the general student population.

Some cliques, if you aren't in organizations it can be hard to meet people

The University of Nebraska, unfortunately, does not offer a complete tutorial on how to survive on such a thriving and enthusiastic campus. Incoming freshman, like myself, are given only a brief glimpse of where we can find the tools that will help us build up our graduate education before we are overwhelmed by a huge football season and classes that progressively get harder. We might be given booklets and pamphlets, but they are usually superfluous and unnecessary. The University begs students to ask questions but first does not give us enough information to build them.

I don't enjoy the idea, of not offering financial aid based on your fafsa. We all have different situations, that require more understanding than just a look at a Government issued peice of paper. I think alot of people, my friends included would still be in school, if the school just provided them a little aid. If a student trul wants to be at my school, than the school should help them out.
