I know colleges are all about bringing different types of people together, but I feel like UMass is one of a handful of school that brings a truly diverse group of students and faculty all into one place. I find this unique in that having such diversity as a school like UMass, it is like a secondary education in itself, and it's one of the main things I love taking advantage of at school.

Compared to other schools I have considered, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst is nicely located in a good sized city; yet the campus itself is situated so as to still give off the sensation of being a good distance from the metropolitan area. This affords a peaceful atmosphere, and yet one is still able to purchase just about anything he needs by taking a short trip to any of the local shops. Also, the University of Massachusetts offers a superior education in comparison with other colleges. To receive the best education possible enables you to be the greatest influence possible.

One unique factor about University of Massachusetts at Amherst is the chance for students to be able to join many different extracurricular activities. There are many sports opens at many levels for students of various commitments. Clubs and groups of all kinds are always looking for new members. Fraternities and sororities are also open to new students. All of these activities are great ways to make many different kinds of friends and enjoy learning new things.

UMass Amherst is HUGE!!! Some people might see this as a bad attribute. I would have to disagree. The vast size of this amazing campus allows for such diversity. There is a large amount of diversity in the variety of majors and classes, extracurricular activities and sports, and there is such a diverse group of students. What amazes me is that despite all of the diversity, students at UMass have such a great sense of community and school spirit. It might seem too big at first glance, but somewhere on this huge campus, there is a home for every student.

UMass-Amherst was my first choice when I transfered there. I picked it because it has well respected departments and is well run and managed. UMass-Amherst pulls off being a huge school without feeling like another drone in the crowd. That is no mean feat.

Well, I didn't really consider any other four year schools, but I did finish an Associate's Degree at the Community College of Vermont. I think that from my experience at CCV and what I know of other people's experiences at different institutions, UMass has the most resources and the most diversity of most of the schools in this area.

Umass is part of the Five College program. This means that Umass students and students from surrounding colleges can take classes together on different college campuses (the other colleges include Smith College, Hampshire, Mt. Holyoke, and Amherst College. At Umass you can get the experience of a large university but also take smaller, specialized classes at the other private colleges in the surrounding area. This allows for students to make connections with each other and professors in the larger community, not just at Umass. This program is unique to Umass and the other colleges and creates a well rounded education.

UMass Amherst has a second bachelors in nursing program which is an accelerated 17 month program.

While I attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst I find that the availablity of opportunities for other students and I to adapt to the "real" world are vast. Each student has the availability to network with their professors creating references and opening doors to possible Research Assitantships and Teaching Assistantships. There are also many on campus job opportunitues, other than those previously stated, that allow students to build their resume's. As I have understood from fellow high school graduates these opportunies are not common in availability. I believe, for these reasons, the University of Massachusetts Amherst is unique.
