The branch of my university which I attend is located on an Air Force base in Okinawa, Japan. Most classes are in the evenings with a wide variety of students from a wide variety of ages and backgrounds. The typical college activities such as Freshman orientation and sororities, do not exist. It is more of a serious, adult environment.

UMUC is unique because it is a school for adults who need to attend class at night or online due to their day-time job, distance from the campus or because they are out of state. This school allows me to maintain my in-state status, which keeps my tuition costs down, and allows me to complete my degree completely online, or if I chose, I could attend class in-person if I thought it would help me with my understanding of the class.

The reason I chose this school is its location, UMUC has small branches on many military bases all over the world. Which means that as we are transfered from country to country I know I have more connection with my school. There is even a branch in Iraq, so come what may I can still continue my education. They were also able to transfer all of the credits from my old school, as well as give me more credit for my military training than my previous school had done. UMUC is able to work with the military and their families.

UMUC offers a number of undergraduate and graduate degrees completely online. This is wonderful for returning adult students that have a family to support and have to work full time.

UMUC to me in the beginning has a draw there, that brought me to apply, when after seeing that Environmental Management was being offered on- Line. I'm returning back to school after a few years break and discovered that financially couldn't muster up the cash and also being on-line with my residence in the state of Georgia- there is no chance of coming off the out of state tution. There for the persute of scholarship money has become a priorty in my life, to finish my undergraduate degree at UMUC.
