University of Maryland-College Park Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about University of Maryland-College Park? Why?

Matthew

The worst thing at the University of Maryland is the north campus diner. This diner is designed for the underclassmen of the university, but does not provide a diversity of food for those who tire easily of pizza and sandwiches. The south campus diner is much better alternative for a lunch time meal, but it is an inconvenient walk for the north campus dinner crowd. Otherwise the university is a great place to be.

They worst thing is that the athletes are given royalty status simply because they create revenue for the school. People who are actually studying challenging courses and have high hopes and dreams on the academic front are given what is left over especially in the academic and financial sense of things. They are given first pick of classes and full rides but other students get what is left over after the athletes.

The biggest downside about attending UMD in College Park is the lack of a college-town feel to the sorrounding area. It is unsafe to venture off campus at night and there is little to down in the city of College Park during the day. Local bussinesses have been dropping like flies and my fellow peers and I are growing bored with the city.

Abena

The worst thing about this school is the housing. It is so hard to get good housing on-campus, and off-campus housing can get really expensive. Thankfully they are starting to build more housing on campus.

Sarah

It is a big city-like school.

Heather

My school is relatively expensive to attend as an out of state student. This can hurt their drive to become a very diverse campus for residents of Maryland have the most incentive to attend. To make the college more diverse, they should level the playing field to include residents from all 50 states and overseas.

Candice

The transition as a transfer student is difficult and some information that is vital to know may not be shared.

Amanda

I think it is very expensive, but that may be because I do not have wealthy parents. Those that do have wealthy parents do not seem to have problems. Also, I do not think that the teachers are very qualified. Especially in the language department. They may speak a language fluently, but they are not good at teaching.
