University of Maryland is a Research One institution, which means that its primary purpose of existance is to add to the sum of human knowledge. It is best known for research conducted in a variety of fields.

My school is best known for its basketball team, its excellent Engineering and Computer Science programs, and its state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center and recreation center (the Eppley Recreation Center).

It is known for their academics and athletic teams. The school also has a great hearing and speech program. Also, it has an excellent education and journalism program.

It is known for the many opportunities it offers to its graduate and undergraduate students. It is an excellent research university. I believe my school is best known for its limited enrollment programs. These LEPs require high standards from the students in order to be admitted into specific majors such as business, architecture, engineering, communication, and many more. While it makes it harder for students to get into their dream major, it does encourage students to reach higher and perhaps even become more successful.

Diversity. The University of Maryland not only has a diverse student body, but their academic philosophy provides an extremely varied amount of majors. Unlike a smaller institution, a student with a change of heart will not have to leave the University to pursue their new interest. My school is bet known for its athletics. We are the 2002 NCAA Mens Basketball Champs and two time women's basketball Champs!
