If there is one piece of advice I have about success in college, it is to USE YOUR PROFESSORS AS TOOLS! They are there to help you. Talk to them. Get to know them. Ask questions. It is easy to fall behind in college, but your professors are there to help if you come to them. I have went to see several professors after class, in office hours, or talked to them over e-mail. I promise, they aren't as intimidating as they may seem. They are real people, and they became professors for a reason. They want to help you be successful and mater the material. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT, hesitate to talk to them. Besides, you will need a good relationship with them when it comes time for those pesky letters of rec, right?

The professors I have had thus far have all been relatively engaging. Most are very proficient in their fields and often passionate about what they are doing. I have had one snotty teacher, but I suppose its because she's young and attractive--she needs to keep her guard up to maintain respect and order, and I get that. Many professors have PhD or are well on their way to obtaining that status.

All of my professors are very good about being reachable. If they aren't in their office, I usually have an e-mail response from them within a few hours. Most are willing to cut you some slack if you come to them with a legitimate issue. The worst thing about some of my professors is just the amount of homework we get sometimes....but when you're a senior in an engineering program, you can expect to have a little more of a work load. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the professors we have. You'll always have one who's been there way too long and is getting cranky, and you'll always have at least one who's extremely friendly and fun to listen to.
