University of Kentucky Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about University of Kentucky? Why?

Rebekah

I would consider the cost the worst aspect of attending the University of Kentucky. As a student who pays for school on their own, I can whole heartedly say that the lifestyle that I lead between working, attending, and life, would not be manageable by all the students who deserve the chance to succeed at this University.

Some of the dorms are pretty bad. The rooms themselves are fine, but the bathrooms and elevators are pretty bad.

There is nothing that i can say bad about my school because I haven't been here long enough to really get a better understanding of things.

The worst thing about my college is how hung up kids are as far as social status is concerned especially in sports. I thought that once you left high school all that a lot of that drama would be over, but when you have to deal with who is playing which sport, or who is in what frat I find it frustrating that I cannot associate myself with certain people based on their social status. Like most schools we have our pride and joy sports team that everyone loves, and if you don’t you are an outcast.

The worst thing about the university of kentucky is signing up for classes to work for you. Most of the time when scheduling classes it is hard to schedule them to fit what works for you and woking off campus to pay for college.

The people! The people here are not the most welcoming people. I came in to the University of Kentucky as an African American female. Diversity on campus is "decent", but when it comes to getting along with other african american females...it is non existant. The girls here are very judgemental and unwelcoming. Dirty looks, stares, whispers, are all typical things I find them doing on a daily basis. Luckily, I'm a strong individual and can handle it.

The age of some of the facilities is my biggest problem with the school. The agricultural college for instance has an elevator that breaksdown, as well as a dusty and dark class rooms.

I believe that school does not reward students by increasing scholarship dollars. I know of many students who lost their scholarships due to academic reasons. I have been able to maintain at least a 3.0 and am unable to receive an increase in my scholarship that pays for in-state tuition only. I have contacted the school president's wife, the scholarship committee and spoken to several financial aid officers who all say that there is no money available.

The worst thing about the school is probably the wealth of things to do. Being given so many opportunities makes it hard to balance social and educational responsibilities. Perhaps more importantly, the school is like its own community. It's easy to forget sometimes that campus is actually in the middle of a big city, with its own share of interesting things.
