University of Hawaii at Manoa Top Questions

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Sean

just how much is needed to get my degree

Chelsea

I wish i had known more about the school and ways to get involved with other activities. You have to do some work on your own in order to find out about meetings, clubs, and similar things and it would have been better to know all that before attending.

Christina

Nothing much, I was born and raised on another island so I was not shocked by anything. This University and this life is what I know.

That the international business program is kind of a joke and that they have so many lower class requirements that it would take me longer than 2 years. That the parking is horrible there.. That it's hard to make friends because most people don't really socialize there outside of class and group projects.

Gabrielle

I wish I had known about it earlier.

Amber

That the parking situation is pretty challenging. Parking is limited and passes are issued by class ranking. Don't get a car unless you have your parking issues resolved. Also, even though it's sunny Hawai`i, bring a few sweaters and an umbrella. The school is in Manoa Valley, which is always cooler than other parts of the island, and it sprinkles every day. Honolulu is also a pretty expensive place to live, at least until you know your way around. Take advantage of cheap things like dorms, student discounted bus passes, etc.

Before coming to this school, I wish I had known how much I would have to rely on myself to figure things out, not depending on my parents to do everything for me. I definitely wish I had known exactly what career field I wanted to get into. This would have helped me graduate in 4, or possibly less, years. I changed my major in my 3rd year, and now I'm planning to graduate a semester or two late.
