In the past, the University of Florida has been stereotyped as a party school. Therefore, many people would think of the students at the University of Florida as "partiers." However, I have spent three and a half years at the University of Florida, and I have found that the majority of students do not simply party all the time. The University of Florida has a very diverse group of students. Everyone can find his or her place at this wonderful school. I have found that if you want to be a "partier," then it really does not matter what school you attend because you can find parties at every university. Any student can find something he or she loves to participate in at the University of Florida, whether it is sports, greek life, or volunteering.

The thing about the University of Florida is that because the state itself is so diverse, the school reflects that. There are people from South Florida, the pan-handle, and out of state like me. So when I hear stereotypes about UF like, "They are all Miami Guidos" or "Everyone's really fratty", my first thought is, they're both kind of accurate! There really is every type of person you could imagine here and theres room for all of them to feel comfortable.

There is a large Greek community so there are your stereotypical frat guys and sorority girls. On the other hand, there is also a great Engineering program so there are your stereotypical nerds as well. The student body at UF is very diverse so it is difficult to categorize the whole body of students into just one stereotype.

Sometimes, UF students are seen by others as being stuck up. Honestly, the students are extremely down to earth. We get the stereotype because we are extremely proud to be Gators, and we are proud of our academics as well as athletic departments. To others, it sometimes comes across as being snooty, but Gators certainly are not!

A common stereotype of the University of Florida is that all people that go here are in a frat and also like to party hard. This stereotype is has most likely been generated from the reputation UF got after the years between 2006 and 2008 when UF won two national championships in basketball and two national championships in football, UF's two biggest sports. Where this reputation may have been accurate during the year or two following these championships (and hey, who doesn't like to celebrate?), the University of Florida has put measures in place to put this stereotype to rest. Because of this, UF has in fact become a place where a diverse culture thrives and, honestly not one certain stereotype really stands out among the rest. If you come here, you will most likely find people who are like you, have the same interests, and who you enjoy being around. This is what I have found after being here for the past 4 years, passed on to my sister who was a freshman last year, and what I would pass on to you. Any day during the week you can walk through Turlington Plaza or the Plaza of the Americas in front of Library West and see cultural, religious, and social diversity. You will see people from places like Colombia, Korea, Russia, frats, and sororities. You will most likely see the Hare Krishnas who pass out cheap lunch everyday or Christians setting up a couch on the lawn. This lack of one certain stereotype at UF has indeed become a theme of its own.

Well, I'd say most of my peers are very intelligent for sure, but what I've found is that they're not arrogant at all. Actually, I think most of my peers are really nice people. Something I also like about UF is how culturally diverse the school is. Not many people know this, but aside from there being many students on campus, there are also many students off campus who go to school online with UF. There are people from just about every corner of the world on and off campus. Most students on campus tend to be your average college student age. Many are from different parts of the state, country, and the world. Off campus students tend to be non traditional students; folks who are coming back to school after many years; they may have families and full time jobs now. They're coming back to study with UF online because of how convenient it is.

The stereotype of the University of Florida is that we are all extreme Gator enthusiasts. This is somewhat accurate, being that many students love the Florida Gators here, but there are many other facets of the school that are not shown as well including the various organizations that you can become a part of.
