University of Dallas Top Questions

I believe there are some misconceptions about the University of Dallas because it is not known as a 'party school'; people still know how to have fun here and friendships are forged easily. Because the course load is considerable and the expectations are high, some people may feel intimidated by what may be required of them if they are pursuing a pre-law or pre-med track. It is a tough school, but not impossible to do well as long as students stay on track.

The worst thing about UD is also the thing that's going to ensure that I get a quality education. The classes are ridiculously hard, and everyone who goes there is really fighting to keep their scholarships.

Irving, Texas is the home of the University of Dallas. In some ways, you are close to all that Dallas has to offer. However, the campus is a bit isolated from the urban center. Located high atop a hill with a blue-lit tower as a center jewel, the location might be somewhat remote for some. Most students do not even desire the use of a car the first year, as the average student is more likely to be reading Plato on a Friday night than searching for clubs or raves. That being said, close relationships prevail, studying rules!

I consider the lack of faculty-staff-student communication the worst thing about my school. I greatly dislike having to talk to 7 different people before I can get a straight answer to a simple financial aid or registration question. It gets very old not knowing what you're supposed to be doing or where you're supposed to go to get your information. And also, the amount of time it takes for information to be updated is quite annoying.

There are many sub-par adjunct professors for lower level courses, and the housing situation for upper classmen has been handled very badly.

Some business majors don't necessarily buy into the liberal arts, which can ruin CORE classes for students who are genuinely interested in the pursuit of truth and knowledge. There is a bit of a separation between the Business students and the liberal arts students, because most of the former don't understand why the Core matters until after they graduate.

The worst thing is the look of the campus. It's composed of hideous old brown buildings and there's no classic architectural design. It's as if the architects went for a modern look in the 60's and now the school's grounds look very dated and dingy.
