What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before I came to this school, I wish that I had known all of my choices for getting financial aid. I chose to go to this school at the last minute, so I didn't get very many financial aid offers. I didn't even apply to this school. I wish I had done that as well as do thorough research on UC Merced.

I wish I'd known how isolated from my family I'd end up feeling but that regardless the transition from high school to college isn't at all as daunting as it first appears to be. What I really wish I'd known was that the distance from town really makes the school seem as if it stands on its own and as someone who's grown up in the city it can be a bit maddening at times.
