University of California-Irvine Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about University of California-Irvine? Why?

Courtney

Lack of student life during the weekends; the accommodation demanded by the school of the surrounding area. School was made to be a comuter school and now the are working on changing that; but the surrounding area is not college-friendly as far as prices and interesting things for students under 21

Christina

Phone receptions in particular areas are horrible. Many have Verizon and they experience less problems. However, people like me, who has T-mobile, should expect to get cut off during conversation very often. It's very hard to keep in contact with parents and friends who attend different colleges.

Dan

The social life, especially on the weekends. All of the parties here on thursday, so I can't go to any of them because I always have early friday classes. Even though a good portion of the students live on campus, they go home on the weekends, so it makes this place seems like a commutor school. It's completely dead on the weekends or break.s.

Amanda

It seems like there is not a whole lot to do in the surrounding areas of the school. To have a good social life, you have to be extremely involved with school activities, so you can network and meet new people. The school is great, but the city is kind of dead if you dont know anyone.

David

It doesnt have a lot of school spirit or pride. Most of the people here don't really want to be here because Irvine was not their first choice. Were a bunch of people who almost made it to a "good college."

Spenser

The school emphasizes "practical" education so much that people don't even know how good our non-science and engineering programs are. I'm in my third year here and still find out new things about programs here.

Ximeng

No diversity!

Jennifer

It is not necessarily the "worst" thing about the school, but there are many social events. One must learn to balance both social, and school life to be successful.

Eric

boring social life if one is not invovled in fraternities or soroities. cheating is epidemic in classes where students know professors are negligent.

Esther

UCI is a very commuter school. Therefore many people go home for the weekend. But if you are here on the weekends, it is very boring because all students like to do is party. Unless that is what you like to do. To go to these parties one must be affiliated with a sorority or fraternity. It is hard finding jobs in Irvine because of the limited jobs available. Apartments around irvine are very expensive.
