My mom really was always right! But kind, because she never said I told you so. I wish I would have applied myself in high school and not just done the minimal to just get by. I wish I would have taken advantage of getting the best education possible. I wish I had realized how important it really was in all areas of my life. I wish trying to get a good job without having any skills or further education wasnt nearly impossible these days. I wish I could get out of living in my mom's basement. I did alot of wishing and thinking after high school. Now I am trying to turn those wishes and dreams into reality. I want to learn. I want to get ahead in this world. I want to be productive. I want to be a role model for others. I want to go to college and develop a career, a career that I will be still interested an excited about in 30 years. If I had told myself these things, it would have made the transition of reality so much better.

I would tell myself to spend wisely. The biggest problem right now is money. I would have wanted to save a little bit more so that I can give myself time to find a part time job. I need to have an income to make sure rent gets paid along with all the neccesities. I would always tell myself to stay focused. Even though I do not enjoy school I need to focus and make sure I get the grades needed. I would always tell myself to look for more scholarships. I did a lame job on looking for scholarships and I am wishing I would have made more of an effort to find free money.

Don't focus on other students. Only focus on your own success. Be the best you can be for your own benefit, not for the benefit of others. Take pride in your work and show yourself what you are capable of achieveing.

Get ready for the big world. Things are quite different out there. Don't go out with the thought that you are invincible. There are times that you are still going to need help. During one of our orientation sessions, we were told that we need to take the chips off of our shoulders and be willing to ask for help. There are many great resources within the school system that can provide help if needed. You just have to ask. It's a big world out there and they don?t expect you to take it on by yourself. They want to see you strive and succeed. Don?t expect to get by easy. You do have to work at it. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes the light gets a little dim but support from your family, friends, and the school will help you get through it. Don?t give up.

If I could go back in time and talk to myself about what I know now, I would tell myself that college life would be nothing like I expected, but better because I would be pursuing something that would benefit me for the rest of my life. Also that I would be training in something that I love to do, and that I would be able to provide for my family.
