Describe the students at Texas Tech University.

We are FREE SPIRITED here at Tech!!! Forget A&M's lame traditions. We have more school pride and spirit than any other school in Texas! One of my favorite things about Tech is that we have our traditions but we don't base our pride around them. We base our pride around our entire school and student body. We are ALL proud to be RED RAIDERS and we don't need different hand signals to set us apart from one another. We are a whole and we cheer, support, laugh and have fun as a whole. If you want to be free to do what you like and not looked at as an outsider for not following the crowd then Texas Tech is perfect for you! TEXAS TECH= FREE SPIRITED!!!

There is alot of diversity in the student body. Everyone can find a place to fit in. There is always something on campus that you can find to do, and people are really friendly. I was blown away with how many people said hello to me when i first moved into the dorms.

Most students are from Texas. It is a very conservative student body. Dressing to class can be compared to the look one has from rolling out of bed. Hair is in a huge messy bun or ponytail and shorts, sperrys or uggs, and a large tshirt. Boys in frats dress in brightly colored polos and khaki shorts. other boys tend to wear cowboy boots.

I've seen a very diverse amount of people on the Texas Tech campus. So I'm pretty sure any person would love Tech. Different types of students interact each day, not only in class but outside of class also. I have met a lot of students that are very politically aware.

The student body at Texas Tech is pretty diverse. There are a lot of different social groups, and most of them get along extremely well. I have noticed that there aren't as many minorities (specifically African Americans) on our campus. We are known to have a pretty conservative campus, and the majority are Republicans. We do, however, have a "Tech Democrats" club, and they're very active on campus, as well. We have a lot of students from Dallas (Highland Park, Lake Highlands, Plano), Houston (Memorial, The Woodlands), and San Antonio (Alamo Heights). We also have a lot of small towners - Abilene, Brownwood, Midland/Odessa, Sweetwater, Victoria. Many of the students are wealthy through oil or just family money.

I dont think any student could feel out of place here. When i first moved up to tech i seriously didnt know anyone. i hung out in my dorm for the first week by myself getting organzied for school to start. once i started gettin out of the dorm i found it didnt take me long at all to meet people. there are a million places to go on campus so once u find a place you like to be you meet people there and usually yall will have the same interests and there you go, your group starts forming. im pretty athletic so i would go to the student rec a lot and meet a lot of athletes and now my close group of friends are people who play football, volleyball, soccer, and basketball for tech. there are million people here to meet and from all over the globe. ive met people from africe, europe, austraila, fiji, spain, and china. its a great place to meet people and its good to learn about diverse groups of people. usually students will wear just jeans and a sweater to class depending on the weather. a lot of girls like to wear the athletic shorts with ugg boots and a northface sweater. its an interesting style choice to me but no exactly my own. you usually dont see people dressed up unless they have a presentation due or they are seniors and making important speeches.

I wish Tech had a more diverse student body. Most students here are white. Although we are growing in terms of racial diversity, a lot moe needs to be done. Also, there shoudl be more economic and social diversity.

Edgar

Most people at Tech are either from Houston or Dallas... there are different kinds of groups here but there is something for everybody if you cant find something you like then start your own... Tech is really cool about new organizations and stuff and they like diversity...

Colin

The student body is fine, a great balance of all sorts of people. I am glad that there have not been any major incidents or tragedies here.

Owen

This is a school filled with mostly WASPs. There is a good, southern, preppy feel, mixed with some country outdoorsy type of life. Most people who like Tech the most are Greek, and well off, but there are all different types of people, as to be expected with 30000 students. Most of my friends wear polo shirts and khaki pants and drive tahoes, and that should give you a feel for the atmosphere.
