What I have gotten out of my college experience is the value of time management and having fun at the same time. During the first week of school I learned quickly that college is absolutely different than High school and more challenging. As soon as I learned this, I faced my challenge head on and stepped up to the plate. I am now more efficient about my time where I choose to spend it. I have gotten out my college experience that my teachers are willing to help me at all times no matter what. Starting out at a small college such as Spartanburg Methodist really helps you make the high school to college transition much easier. It has ben valuable to attend college because it shows that I am working diligently to work towards my goal and becoming a nurse someday. It is valuable because it helps mold me into a succussfull young lady. I will graduate. I will become a nurse. All because I am determined and started on the right path.

As a high school senior, my worldview was a lot different than it is today. Back then, I viewed my education as an obligation to fulfill. It was a mindless series of steps to complete; a predetermined path for me to follow with my sole objective being to reach the finish line and to be done with it. I went through the motions and drug my feet every step of the way. Today, I am a newly enrolled college freshman at the age of 22. After a 4 year hiatus from school, it is a difficult transition to make, and I know it will be a challenge. However, school is no longer something I dread or feel forced into. It is an opportunity I will not take for granted this time around. I only wish I had seen high school in this same light. There are so many valuable tools offered in high school, you just have to take advantage of them. I truly believe education is a gift that you give to yourself. If you allow it, high school can be a door to your future. Don't be so quick to slam it shut.

The advice that I would tell my former self is that even though in high school everybody acted like college was easy they had no clue. I would tell myself to study harder than ever and do your very best on the SATs because they do mean alot when it comes to getting into college. I would let myself know about all the debt you wind up haveing, but how its worth it. Also I might add to try out for these types of things so I would have less debt. I believe thats all I whould tell myself.

I am a non-traditional student who unlike most of my fellow classmates, have a little bit of "real world" knowledge. If I could go back in time, I do not believe I would speak to myself. By having a conversation with myself, what might I affect? Would my life be different from what it is now? I am not unlike most people when I think to myself and wonder what I would like to have better in my life but in doing so, one must take stock on what is good and be appreciative. In speaking to myself in the past, I could make my present state of affairs less desirable. I believe on playing the hand I have been dealt because the next hand could be worse.
