Southwestern Illinois College REVIEWS

What's your overall opinion of Southwestern Illinois College?

Chandler - 05/24/2020

I think Southwestern Illinois College is a unique atmosphere for a two year school. For your first two years of school(general studies), completing a certificate program, academy training for law enforcement purposes, or an apprenticeship is a well developed setting to be in. With a diverse student body providing outstanding opportunities to become more knowledgeable of extracurricular activities occurring on/off campus. This allows students to become more sociable with one another and have a well-connected student body/overall experience.

Madison - 12/19/2019

The professors are pretty good for the area they teach in, most holding high standards while maintaining an open mind to the situations of each student. The students here are generally nice if you engage in conversation, but most of us keep to ourselves as we go to class unless we are in a designated social area such as the Cyber Lounge. The campus is fairly easy to navigate and classes are moderately easy to difficult depending on the professor.

Lindsey - 06/04/2019

It's a great community college to get started. It's centrally located and affordable. The professors are always available to help whether in person or through email. The class sizes are average sometimes smaller. It's a great way to start a college experience at a cheaper price

Megan - 04/29/2019

It isn't too bad but I ran into a lot of problems with the advisers and the financial aid counselors. My adviser didn't care much whether or not I was in the correct classes to help with my degree or if money was being taken from my pocket instead of my loan being used.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back and talk to myself as a senior I would tell myself to treasure every day of high school. Try and cherish the time you have at school with all of your friends instead of trying you rush yourself to get out of school everyday. I would also tell myself to really appreciate the opportunities that you have in high school. In high school there are so many people that will do anything at all to help you succeed. I would go back and tell myself to give every effort to focus in one getting to the college level, in academics as well as athletics. But most of all i would tell myself that everything will figure itself out in time and not to spend the whole year worried what your going to be doing for the rest of your life.

  10. What's unique about your campus?

The teachers are easily the best thing about my school. I have heard many horror stories of students from different colleges being taught by teaching assistants. Others have tales of indifferent professors focused more on their own research than teaching. At SWIC the teachers care and genuinely want you to learn. A lot of them are highschool teachers that also teach here. It's amazing to know that you don't have to worry about getting a bad teacher when you sign up for a class.

  11. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about the Belleville campus would be the set-up of the tutoring center and the set-up of the admissions office. They keep you on a time limit that they often remind you of, which makes you feel like you're either in their way or not that important. The other campus branches aren't like that.

  12. Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

I think what makes SWIC so unique is that as small as this school is, we have kids come from all over the place to get their associates degree here. Also, our music students are the best ambassadors SWIC has. Marketing frequently uses music students for their catalouge covers and ad's that are put in local movie theaters. It's very close to home.
