I really like this school, and as I'm applying for graduate school next Fall, this school is still my top pick among all the rest. I would like if there were more accessible restrooms, since I am non-binary and don't like to have to use the gendered restrooms, but there are some buildings that are pretty accessible in that way. The campus is very safe and well-lit at night, and the crime rate is seriously low. The funding for graduate programs is being cut across the board, which I find pretty upsetting, but it hasn't impacted students too much as of yet.

My opinion of my school is that it is very chill here! We have tons of activities almost every night and they are very fun and a great way for you to make friends! The food is actually amazing, and the housing is perfect whether you have a shared bedroom, private or studio!

Idarose - 08/05/2020

I honestly do not have much bad to say, it has been the best choice of my life and I am so glad I get to learn at such an amazing place. From the amazing staff to the great vibes form all the other students the experience while being there has made me a better person and even more excited about my career path.

This school screws everyone over. Go anywhere else in America rather than here. The advisors are terrible, the teachers are terrible, and it’s overall one of the worst schools in the USA. Terrible everything. I wish I wouldn’t have gone here but now I’m stuck here getting screwed by the school.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell my senior self that it'll be alright. My former self will already know this, because I wasn't afraid to leave home. I was aware of how lonely it could get, but I left determined to make the time at college awesome. So I guess I don't really need to give myself any advice...well, besides preparing for the smell of burnt popcorn and Ramen every night in the dorms. But you can't really prepare yourself for that one.

  11. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The geese. Just... the geese. They leave their droppings everywhere, and they get really territorial around this time of year. I can't walk around on campus without fearing that a goose is going to come after me! Generally they're pretty docile, but there's a lot of them, and they're SUPER noisy...

  15. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

There are no Greek organizations. There are groups that try to be, but the city of Edwardsville has an ordinance that is strictly enforced of more than four unrelated individuals to live under one roof. If you do research on the relationship of the City of Edwardsville and SIUE it is very ugly. The state moved quickly to build the school and took farm land from some of the citizens. Still to this day, there is almost a full mile of empty land between the school and town, a strong tension.

  16. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

I can honestly say that I don't see a particular stereotype. We have frats and soroties as well as many talented athletes. There are so many different clubs and activities available that everyone is free to float about and be a part of things on campus, not one particular thing is considered the "best" or "biggest".

  17. What are the academics like at your school?

Small class size is a benefit. But, it comes at a HUGE cost, both in time and money. The school limits the number of students per class to such a small number that roughly 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students that register for a class get squeezed out. Why does that matter? Myself and each and every member of my 30 person group of friends through out college did NOT graduate in 4 years. By the way, many required classes are strategically scheduled only once per semester, so if you don't get in, it is a FULL year before many classes are offered again. I pushed this point with my department head, that person changed 3 times in the 5 years I attend SIUE, sounds like a roll over in staff huh? When pushed the department head said that it is so theoretically students would graduate in a perfect 4 year time frame, when I provided physical proof (list of classes and semester offered, clearly showing that at minimum 4 and half years is required), he stammered and had a sudden meeting to attend.
