What should every freshman at Sheridan College know before they start?

Abby

If I could go back to my senior year of high school, and give myself some advice, I would definitely say "slow down". Don't let your innocense slip away before you are ready, don't take for granted the easy life of living at home, and don't slack off. College is not the easy party that some make it out to be, it is an exciting but very hard transition. Prepare yourself for the real world, and do your best to ready yourself for the responsibilities that lie ahead.

I would tell myself to go straight to college right after high school and not wait. I would also tell myself that the longer you wait the harder it is to make yourself go back, and sometimes life sends you curves. I would tell myself it doesn't matter if other people say you can't do it, as long as you have faith in yourself that you can.

I would advise myself to forget about finding a high paying job for the time being, concentrate and study even harder, and to do the best I can to learn in school even if my grades are not as high as I would like. Learning is a process and at times may happen slowly. I would advise myself to stay in school, stay the course! I Would Let Myself Know That Everything I Do, All My Bad Habits And Good Habits, Will Effect My Life In College And My Career And I Should Think About That Before I Do Anything. That In The Long Run, It Would Be Worth It.

College is what you make of it. If you are excited to attend college, you will make friends and do great. If you cant let go of the past and you are worried about whats going on back home you will never be able to leave and start a new chapter in your life. you have to let go and go with an open mind

If I could go back and talk to myself in high school, I would definitely start out by saying whatever happens stay calm. It will be rough in the beginning and you will feel like the best option is just to go back home and consider this a joke, but it's not. You will meet friends that are supportive, you will get the oppurtunity to be a part of the Resident Hall Government executive team, you will be able to be part of the Senate team, and with all that be able to maintin a B average. High School and College are two different things. And as you should take them both seriously, you pay for you college education, so what you do is completely on you. You are now an adult. I would also add that what you are doing is achieving a lifetime goal, and it will only feel amazing when you get through the tough times.

If I were able to guide myself as a high school senior, there would be quite a few things to fix. The most important thing I would change is, get my priorities straight and figure out what comes first. In my idea now, I would make it pursuing and getting prepared for my college career. I would explain to myself that as much as it seems I need to put my friends first, it?s not going to help me out in my future career. In all honesty, I wasn?t the picture perfect student in high school and have even had my rough spots in college, but what matters is when you put your goal in your mind and not let anyone get into the way of that. When you are determined to be what you want to be, and you take it and run with it. Although it took some of my high school career to figure that out, I did it. So If I were able to go back I would tell myself never give up because what comes next is an amazing experience. When you take those few steps back, work hard to keep moving forward.

I am a single parent who is making the decision to extend my goals and return to school for nursing program at Sheridan College. I am a non-traditional college student. I am accustomed to taking responsibility and making my own decisions. In high school I lived with my parents and they made all of the major decisions; including which high school I was going to attend. This will not be true at Sheridan College. Sheridan College will see me choosing my own major and with a certain amount of flexibility in choosing my electives. I am here to obtain my Bachelor?s in Nursing Degree. My focus will be getting an acceptable grade in non science courses and to excel in nursing required science courses such as anatomy, physiology, biology, microbiology and my required clinicals. The way to achieve these goals is by focusing in on each of my classes, taking notes, and spending at least 2 hrs daily studying for each course. Without the worry of financial troubles that usually gets in the way of obtaining your educational goals.

As a high school Senior at Arvada Clearmont high school, I had no idea of where I wanted my life to go, none the less the road I needed to take to get there. I graduated from Arvada Clearmont High School in the spring of 2002, and had decided to work in the construction field for a while to save up some money for college next year. After a year had passed, I enrolled as a full time student at Sheridan College. If I were given the oppertunity to go back and give myself advice, I would tell myself to make the best of my todays, be the worst of my tomorrows! Make each day better than the last! I know this is a very broad piece of advice, however, I believe that everything happens for a reason, and although my road to success was a rocky one, it got me where I am today! Today I am 25 years old, and persuing a degree in educastion because it is where my road has led me to! looking back at my past experiances, I wouldnt change a thing!
