What are the academics like at Saginaw Valley State University?

Because the school is so small, the largest class is about 180 for general chemistry. Almost all of my teachers have known my name. Classes are small and helpful with lots of options. Most interesting class was my English 204 Lit class, Oprah's book club. Worst class was Spanish Conversation, I ended up withdrawing. Bad TEACHER!!! We have the option to take lots of KINE work out classes. I am a nursing major, currently P1 in the program. Everyone on campus knows how hard the nursing students have to work; it is an intense major. I've had great teachers throughout my pre-req years where office hours are frequently available and that's just continued into the nursing program faculty. I know when I graduate I will be able to get a job right away, most likely before I even graduate.

One thing that attracted me to SVSU was the size of campus. It is relatively small but that only makes it easier to get involved. On big campuses there are sooooo many people that it can be hard to get to know others and develop closeness. Here at SVSU I love that class size is usually is between 20-35ish people. The Professor's know everyone by name and the classmates know each other by name. One reason it is so nice to have professor's know your first name is for networking and connections. Whenever I need advice or help I know I can go up to a professor's office, or email him/her and they know who I am, my situation, and will be there every step of the way. I also enjoy that I can go anywhere and campus and see multiple people I know. I never feel lonely because I always see familiar faces. Everyone is friendly and accepting. It's easy to make friends quickly, especially if you put forth the effort to be outgoing and try new things.

I'm an education major and all of the professors go out of their way to help you. It's easy to contact them and most of them bend over backwards to help. I absolutely love the College of Education and if you're an ed major I wouldn't go anywhere else. I can tell you that I've been challenged in this department and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I'm not going to lie though the Gen ed's at SVSU are hard. For the most part that is.
