What is Roanoke College known for?

It is a small school with some difficulties but great students and faculty. The staff can be rude and parking is awful. But with small class sizes you get one-on-one interaction and create personal relationships. There are many organizations and activities on campus as well as a small town to explore. Only 15 minutes away by car is a mall and urban downtown, which freshman will visit during orientation. Overall my opinion of Roanoke has been positive with a few setbacks.

The best thing about Roanoke is definitely its tight-knit campus community. The college prides itself on being able to offer personal connections with faculty as well as other students. With an enrollment of just over two-thousand, there is definitely a small school atmosphere. Roanoke is not the place for you if you want to blend into the crowd of a large lecture. Classes are generally fewer than 30 students and professors are incredibly accessible. The surround town is small as well, with a few quaint shops and restaurants including the popular and alumni-owned Mac & Bob's. Despite being a NCAA division 3 school, there is a lot of Noke Pride. Soccer, Basketball, and Lacrosse are the most popular sports and the athletic department does a great job of promoting games by having entertainment and prizes. Virginia Tech is also only a stone's throw away for College Football Saturdays.

The great things about RC... a) class size, Rarely more than 25-30 students in a class. I talked to some friends at Tech who say they have classes with over 200 and if they're lucky, a TA might email them back if they need help. I've talked to teachers one-on-one for over an hour after class and they are all very happy to help. b) campus, absolutely beautiful. Named campus of the year 2009 by a national magazine (I forget). Well manicured, beautiful views, and its really easy to get around. c) student body, I'm not even Greek and I have found more close friends here than I ever thought I would. Everyone is chill, the girls are gorgeous. If you like to party no one does it better than we do.

Very, very small and can be a little claustrophobic. The town is good, nightlife revolves mostly around house and frat parties and there are very few bars that people actually go to.
