I think that Roanoke College has a unique atmosphere. It is set in a beautiful location, if has great food, personable staff, wonderful professors with real world experience, and small class sizes. When you get here they really make it feel like home. The natural beauty of the campus is breath-taking and the college is always expanding, with technology and with their buildings.

My time at Roanoke thus far has been a blast! There are so many ways to get involved on campus that it is nearly impossible not to make friends. Being from the Northeast, I was both intrigued and nervous about coming to school in a small, southern town, but the balance of students from the North and South has definitely made the transition easier. Professors are all incredibly approachable. I would HIGHLY recommend getting to know as many of them as possible; they're all so interesting! Another thing I love about Noke is the surrounding valley. The mountains are beautiful and while I've never really been a person who connects with nature, hiking some of the nearby trails has opened my eyes to an interest I never knew I had. Another great thing about Roanoke is its on-campus job opportunities for students. As an English major with a concentration in Communications, I have always been interested in going into Public Relations. I am now currently a student assistant with the college's Public Relations office and am getting real-world experience in the field of my interest. I will also graduate with three year of real experience under my belt, which will allow me to stand out among other prospective job applicants. Roanoke College is truly a great place that fosters learning and personal connections in a classic college atmosphere.

I love it here. I'm going to cherrish the next three years to the utmost. If youre thinking about coming here, think some more. We have the best blend of a great education with the most fun you can have. I would compare us to a smaller UVa. It's not for everybody but its definately for me.

Roanoke College places an emphasis on community service and the feeling of community does not end on the grounds but carries onoto the streets of Salem. Salem, Virginia is a town that thoroughly supports their college maybe because Roanoke is a college that thoroughly supports their community. Roanoke understands that each of their student have a different set of strengths and weaknesses so they provide many opportunities to serve in different ways. Some examples include tutoring children, stocking food pantries and reading bedtime stories to children in the local shelter.

It's not too big, not too small. It has a gorgeous campus and is located in a small town, which helps give the feel of a close-knit community. The other schools I applied to were northern schools. Roanoke is nice because it has exposed me to a different culture and "southern hospitality".

The strength of the academic community. The professors are AMAZING, helpful, very intelligent, and very knowledgeable in their fields. They all publish frequently and are held to the highest standards of conduct by the administration. At the same time they are perfectly approachable and will form strong relationships with their students. Small class size makes it easy to have intense discussions with them, as well as their great office hours.

The professors are really willing to help you outside of the classroom if you need it and the small class sizes make sure every student gets the attention they may need.
