What are the academics like at Radford University?

Essence

The academics here can be a little challenging but with the help of the professors and the tutoring center you can pass with no problem.

Every program at Radford University is great. I know many people in many different majors. The professors and office faculty are all really great. They are willing to help you with anything you need at anytime. Pretty much all of my professors know my name after a few weeks into a new semester. It's always a good idea to introduce yourself to a professor even if you don't need help or you can also stop by their office hours. The professors really like it when the student takes the initiative. On this campus, you will always pass by at least a dozen people sitting somewhere on campus studying. When you are in classes, participation is always good. Teachers encourage it and you really understand the material better when you are adding your input to the mix. My major is Elementary Education with concentrations in Math and Science. I love my major! Radford is well known for their College of Education and Human Development and their Nursing School so if you are wanting a degree in either field, I can tell you all about them. I'm not saying that other majors aren't great though, because they are all amazing! All faculty do help you prepare for life after college or when we all enter the "real" world.

Radford is moving up in the academic rankings. In the past, Radford has been the "back-up" school to get into. However, Radford has really improved its recruitment for honorable students. I would know, as I am a member at the honor's academy. While Radford's status is moving up, it is not too overwhelming for students. Locals around here would view Radford as a good school.

Class sizes at Radford make it possible for professors to know their students names and become involved with their academic experience. I am a Visual Merchandising for design major. I am very close with my professors which makes my experience even more rewarding. I am able to have conversations outside of class with my professors, which helps me to learn more about my career as well as provides an opportunity to ask questions and better understand class expectations. Class sizes and professor relationships at Radford make the desire to learn and to succeed present in everyday life.

Radford class sizes are small which is a benefit. Teachers typically know you by name and are there to help you throughout the semester. We have some highly competitive programs here like the nursing program which is one of the best in the state. Radford also has a wide variety of majors from teaching to business to criminal justice. With a few of the majors you even have the chance to do an accelerated master program (this lets you get your bachelors in 4 years and then just do one extra year to get your masters). Depending on the class you may find that you have to study on a regular basis but you truly do learn something when you leave the class that you can take with you into the real world and will help you in your future job.

The great thing about the small class sizes is that the professors get to know you on a personal letter. I have applied to many programs that require letters of recommendation and I have many professors who feel comfortable writing me a letter. The classes are very hands on and every class I have ever taken always included our opinions in the cirriculum. I love that I can debate with my professors and fellow students or discuss something i've read. I can only imagine how hard it would be to do that if the class exceeded 100 students. The students really aren't competitive unless trying to get into the nursing program. Everybody is so supportive and willing to help you out. Radford has a very high employment rate for recently graduated students. For my major, education, 97{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of students get a job after graduating. Many other students in other majors go on to have much success.
