Is the stereotype of students at Prescott College accurate?

Depending on your definition of what the word "hippie" means...this can be both true and false. When I picture hippies, I see a group of free-thinking individuals who promote personal expression and individuality. I imagine a community of socially aware, actve, and environmentally concious individuals who focus on being part of a global and local community. This is the type of "hippie" that attends Prescott College. We are not a community of lazy, burned-out, drug-children. Prescott College is a very self-directed and experiential kind of school that requires its students to be responsible in order to succeed. You can not be drugged out all the time and get things done here. No one is going to hold your hand here, so success really depends on you.

The stereotype that this is a hippie school isn't really accurate. While the hippie to non-hippie ratio might be higher here than it is at other schools, I think that this mainly comes from the fact that the things students are involved here are usually seen as hippie causes. I think that if anything, the students here show that those causes (environmental sustainability, social justice, etc...) are becoming important to people of the non-hippie variety at a growing pace, and that they are becoming issues that are considered important by everyone (which is a good thing, right?).
