What should every freshman at Oklahoma Christian University know before they start?

So far, I've got a deeper understanding of the life of christ through the book of Matthew. I have got a better feeling concerning college in itself that I can really do it and make it all the way through graduation. It's been valuable to me in that I know now that there is much more going on in the world around me than I could have ever imagined. I have been able to sharpen some of my academic skills as well as have a totally different learning experience to what I'm used to. It's been so valuable to me in that I was able to make the decision through prayer as to what field was best for me and now working toward a bachelor's degree in computer engineering to not have a job, but have a career. I heard someone say when I was younger, "If you are doing what you love, you'll never work a day in your life" and that's what I'm looking for when this is all over. Though attending Oklahoma Christian University is expensive , I love the fact that soon it will be all worth it.

I have enjoyed getting an education at a liberal arts school and recieving more than just the specific knowledge for my major. I am receiving a broader education. I also appreciate going to a private Christian school where I am affirmed in my beliefs and life choice and am supported by the faculty and staff. I attended a public high school and had many of my beliefs challenged daily which helped to shape who I am as a person, however, now I appreciate not having those same struggles while trying to focus on my degree. I have learned so much from my professors on this campus while also forming relationships with them through their support of my other school activities and our attendence as the same churches in the area. The student for the most part are very helpful and supportive of one another. I have made many friendships that I expect to last even after I graduate.

What I have gotten out of my college experience? I have gotten above all a degree that will help me pursue my dreams and goals. I will now be able to get a good job in a design field and feel well equipped to do so. I have gained lifetime friends and even families from that area that I now call my own. I have also gotten a sense of myself there and have gained independence from my own family. I have grown in so many ways since I went to school thousands of miles away from home. It hasn't allowed me to go home on a whim but instead deal with my own problems and challenges that I have immensely grown from. I have gained so much from my college experience that 200 words are unable to tell you. But this paragraph basically sums it up and I am looking forward to what the future holds for me and what jobs I will get because I was able to get a college degree. Thank you so much for your time.

College experience has been anything but your typical movie for me. I started when I was 17 years old. I also had my son the same year. It's valuable to me because it gives me the life skills that I need to move into the world as a mom and as a person with a higher education.

It is amazing to me that I have learned so much after just only one semester completed at a community college. Although going to a community college was not a part of my original plan, I have learned many things that not only pertain to education, but to life itself. I was forced to become more independent since I did not live with my parents anymore. I had to make decisions that were otherwise taken for granted during my life before college and also undergo a type of education that was not academically related. These types of educations, or 'life lessons', ranged from many things such as choosing the right type of food to eat, to maintaining my car, to even deciding when to do my own laundry. The numerous amount of responsibilities that I depended on my parents on were laid on my shoulders and became 'mine'. I believe college should not only be seen as a source of education, but as a means of actually 'growing up' and molding oneself into the person they will be for the rest of their lives. How one chooses to 'mold' his/her self in college however determines their future's success.

As an international student coming alone all the way to America, a brand new culture means a lot. Being here alone means i have no one to turn to when i am in trouble. I have to face the problem and work it out all by myself no matter how difficult it is. It's almost about forcing me to grow up and being independence. I was crying for the first new year night but no not anymore. what's more, being at home, having everything ready for you, it's too enjoyable and i never thought about helping others. Things are different here, being in the college is like entering a small society. i went to a mission trip to Tuba City, Arizona two years in a row, i learned so much that i know there are so many people out there need help. I am ready to prepared myself in college to help others in the future. My college experience is a life-changing experience for me. I had grown up so much and i believe all my friends can see it and i am so thankful for God by bringing me here.

College is a completely different beast comapared to high school. During this first semester, I have been stressed out, had late, late night study sessions, and have almost given up. But I wouldn't change it for the world. College has given me the strength to see past the present and look towards to future. Just from the classes I have taken, I can see what I will become in the next couple of years. By coming to college I have gained not only knowledge but also the ability to study and ask questions. Most people are excited about breaks in school, but I find that being here at school is so much more important than free time. Learning is everywhere but here at college it embodies learning through expiriences and classes. I know college has shaped my life and I hope to continue my education to reach my future goals.

In the past few months here at Oklahoma Christian I have grown so much in God, and in myself. I left home expecting to fail, and fall flat on my face, but the students and staff have helped me so much that it was literally impossible for me to fail, and now I'm doing better than i ever could've imagined.

I have been blessed to receive a good Christian education and a network of friends and possible colleagues on campus. I am also a member of the American Marketing Association chapter here on campus. We try to help students get a good, solid Christian network of business men and women to help further their future careers. This network has also blessed me with an internship with the Oklahoma City Thunder. I have learned at this school that it is possible to be able to use good Christian ethics within the work place and the real world. If I didn't come to Oklahoma Christian I wouldn't have been able to be the person I am today.

My college experience has been everything I hoped it would be and then some, as I have been able to continue to grow toward being an independent butterfly, but everyone back home told me I wouldn't make it. Many said I would come back crying. No one thought I could do it, as I would be so far from home. "The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do." -Walter Bagehot. I have showed them. College has been a new experience, but I have been ready to take it on. The very first week I made friends and met all my teachers, I knew I was at the right place. The value of being able to attend is very important to my plan of being able to fulfill my becoming a nurse. My mother lost her job this past summer and since she never finished college, finding a new job has been difficult. I am watching in real time, what happens if you do not have a college degree. My brother is in his seventh year of college, but watching his mistakes has me focused to do this right. So far, I am on target!
