Northern Oklahoma College Top Questions

What should every freshman at Northern Oklahoma College know before they start?

Kayla

I would love to go back in time and have a long discussion about study habbits, prioritizing, and money management. I would begin by telling myself that getting good study habbits is a must for example, getting used to seeting aside 2-3 hours a day for homework. Another would be to actually read the stuff teahers tell you to, and to take great notes in class even if you have no idea if it even matters, and to also ask questions never be scared to speak out. Prioritizing is a must in college I had to learn how to balance sports, work, and school and I will be the first to admitt it is not as easy as some would think. I would tell myself to worry about the paper that is due the next day instead of the party that is going on that night, just because a teacher may like you does not mean you will get handed a passing grade they know who works and doesn't. Finally money management is a must my second year in school I'm working two jobs so I won't have to reley on my parents.

"Learn to handle your money." that would be the only real advice i think i could have used. I took a few years off before starting college, i believe that matured me further than your normal freshman in college. The only difficulty so far has been money management, which i am better at now through trial and error.

Lindsey Williams (then), Contrary to what you believe, money does not grow on treees. Though old habits die hard, you should search for scholarships because plan A doesn't always work. Grades are highly important but not necessarily everything. That doesn't mean slack off and skip classes. It really means you should do more. Volunteer, be involved in something you like to do. Get a job! Not because you may need money, but I will help you appreciate money so much more. Start saving for the things you will need for your dorm because graduation gifts are great but there are things you will still want or need. Less is more. No one has achieved success without giving up the very thing they wanted. Be prepared to sacrifice, It's all or nothin' & you can't always go home, sometimes you have to face the music. I know you'll do great! Best of Wishes, Lindsey Williams(now)

I think i would have told my self to take high school alittle more serious, and would have cared less about athletics. I also would have told my self to sign up for more scholarships. Get ready for a big change.
