What is the stereotype of students at Northern Arizona University? Is this stereotype accurate?

Kristina

There are some students at NAU that fit the stereotype of typical jocks, frat boys, sorority girls, stoners, etc. to the tee, but surprisingly there are a lot of students that have broken away from these stereotypes and have proven them wrong. For example, I am a Biomedical Science major and there are plenty of fraternity/sorority members that take school seriously and are extremely smart contrary to what many may think. Same goes for stoners, never did I think that some of the people I have met ever smoked weed. Some of my friends who are super smart and very involved on campus, happen to smoke mary-j and I never would have guessed that! It's crazy! I think that a lot of people here at NAU make a name for themselves and don't always necessarily portray a stereotype.

At NAU, a large majority of students are from Southern California. They typically come from the upper-middle class area of San Diego and move to Flagstaff to get away from their family without being too far away from home. Another common stereotype are the "hippies" that are found on campus. Most of them are big into being green and eco friendly, with a large percentage of them being pot smokers.
