Describe the students at Northeastern University.

There is often a complaint that our student body is not diverse enough, but we're working on it. Primarily white middle class kids - but the ethnic student groups on campus are very active.

When I went to orientation the summer before freshman year, I heard all of this talk about how diverse and culturally competent Northeastern was. I looked around, and was curious what they were talking about, as far as racial diversity was concerned. Compared to my extremely diverse high school, where caucasians made up less than half of the student population, Northeastern was ANGLO. Diverse? Not so much. Culturally competent? Fairly. Race aside, the campus was pretty diverse as far as other "differences" are concerned, and it really did seem like everyone interacted harmoniously. A student that might feel out of place at Northeastern is one who doesn't fit the stereotypical fraternity/sorority look and wants to join one. Typical classware is anything from pajamas (for those rolling out of bed or just plain lazy) to a suit (for those going to a job interview or just plain sharp). Most people wore jeans and t-shirts. I hope that the students are politically aware, and at the very least vote when possible. I would guess that most students fall on the left side of the center of the political spectrum. Yes, students talk about how much they'll earn one day. Doesn't everybody?

Different looking people everywhere! It's really hard to feel out of place.

Girls wear : Ugg boots, tight pants, North Face puffy jackets, Longchamp bags, expensive sunglasses. Politically liberal campus, but not active. STudents talk about money, talk about friends who got offers and starting salaries.

I think a lot of different types of students interact since there are such a broad variety of majors here at Nu. Students at northeastern are a pretty career-oriented bunch because of the co-op program. All the different racial/religious groups on campus seem to add awareness and diversity. I've gone to a lot of the random events the groups host and I think it makes for interesting interactions because all different types of people show up in hopes of free food/entertainment.
