research every aspect of the schools.

I would suggest the student should feel comfortable at the school they are attending. Parents must also remember the student is the one attending the college not them. The student is the person that needs to like the campus surrounding and what they have to offer to get a better education.

Visit as many campuses as you can. Keep in mind several FIRST choices, one in the affordable range without much financial aid, and onethat possible isnt. Keep in mind classes sizes and location. If there's a club that you're passionate about but is not related to your major (for instance choir) choose a school tha has it rather than "coping" without. Have fun but don't give into peer pressure. Don't go home every weekend. Don't room with your best mate from high school. Remember when you first get there, no one knows you, you can be who you want to be, not who everyone in high school thought you were. If you're usually shy, try to open up. Keep your door open when moving in so people can stop by and say hi and go say hi to your neighbors. Even if they sounds stupid, go to activited ResLife puts on, it's a great way to meet people, have fun, and release your inner child. Most of all, find a good balance between school work and fun. One without the other will not be a good sign in the end.
