I am absolutely loving the Counseling Graduates Program and all that it has had to offer. I am actually choosing to go for a dual concentration so that I may continue my education at NMHU. I have loved all of my professors thus far and really appreciate the level of discussions and real world training we are having during lecture.

Overall, New Mexico Highlands University is a door-opener. If a person takes their education seriously, and makes the most out of their experience, it will be rewarding and opportunities certainly do await many students after graduation. While extra-curricular activities may be relatively lower on the scale, so to speak, this probably due to the small school population, and the small town itself. It's overall calm, stable place to be, and certainly is the hub of higher education in Las Vegas, New Mexico.

In my opinion New Mexico Highlands University is an amazing university. It is a small university with classes no bigger than 50 students and it is very affordable especially for people that come from low income families. I highly recommend this university especially if you are a resident of New Mexico and other nearby states. We also have great sports programs, the sports we have include men/women basketball, wrestling, baseball, and rugby. Overall Highlands is a great university to go to after high school.

To be honest, I like New Mexico Highlands University. It's a great school, but of course there is always some bad along with the good at any school or place. For example, the housing and meal plan at the school is so expensive that it take a toll to afford it, especially coming from my background. What I have experience with my education though at the school is amazing. I have learn so much in my time here from the class room and at work. I have grown so much as a person and I owe that to New Mexico Highlands University and the people I have met here.

    It is very important to visit many different colleges before making your decision. Make sure that you take everything into consideration. The most important thing you can do while in college is to get involved. Join clubs, participate in social functions, and join intramurals. It is vital to get involved while in college because it motivates you to do well in school. The most important piece of advice I can offer is that everyone messes up while in college, just get back on track and learn from your mistakes.

    The worst thing about my school would be some disrespectful students who stay up long hours and make complaints.

  5. What's unique about your campus?

    I will be new to the school this semester and compared with many other schools in the state, the class sizes are small. The tuition rates are lower than the other 4 year institututions in New Mexico. Probably the best thing about it is how individualized the education is set up to be. There are many opportunities for one on one tutoring and extra help if you are struggling. Advising is individualized based on your needs with your chosen major and living situation. I commute, so they set all my classes on three days.

    The most frustrating thing about New Mexico Highlands is the lack of information presented to seniors. Preparing to graduate has been frustrating because their is no direction on the procedures required to finalize the graduation process. Students must ask and spread the word among classmates. Also, other information has been incorrectly presented to students causing confusion and ultimate frustration.

    Well anyone could attend school if the person is willing to make an effort to go to school. The type of person that is willing to learn something new and wants to better their life has a chance to go to school. Most people do not take the opportunity to see how school is a very important. Everyone has a will to get the grade and the chance to make a difference in their own way. Knowledge is the power to succeed in life and help achieve to the best of the person?s ability.

    This school is best known for one of the oldest universities in New Mexico being built in the 1800's! As well as this school has a very strong social work, science, art and education colleges that help every students become successful academically as well as socially.

    In Highlands University we have a place called the Purple Brew. This place allows us to use computers and a place to finish our homework or any type of work.

    I think it would be hard for the fact that there's going to be people that will offer you no matter what. It depends on yourself to accept or no.

    To this point where I am which is pass mid-term I could say my professors are awesome people. They push me to get work done, they show that they care about your work and their willing to help you at any moment.

TUITION & AID

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
